Premature....Winter Wheels

I know, I know..its only August, but tends to be cheaper in the summer to organise these things.

What are you guys planning on doing re winter tyres. wheels?

I fancy getting a totally separate set so to save my nice shiny black alloys

Good call . Now's the time to sort this out. If you leave it til November the popular winter tyres will be sold out.

I use a set of the 18" BMW F80 M3 winter wheels with Michelin Pilot Alpins. This was because the full package with Conti winters was not available in time for last winter.

I have been happy with my set up. Though virtually no snow or ice in this part of the far North last winter these tyres are a better bet than the pss on cold and wet roads (temps blew 5c or lower).

I bought a set of black 19"s off of the classified section last week. They arrive today! They have the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA 4s @ 255mm.

I can hook you up with the seller. He may have other sets.

I like the black stock wheels so much I went with the same for winter. Also the price was much less than buying new wheels and tires.

I can buy decent tyres to fit the standard rims for about £850. BMW don't supply staggered rims with their winter tyre hotel deal thingy on the basis that the front wheels need to be the same size as the rears so the rears take the same track. Sounds like a sales ploy and a load of balls. Love to know the unbiased truth chaps!

I Thought the square set up was to aid fitting snow chains which are a legal requirement in some places

Watch the curbs with those wheels, they protrude quite a bit.
