Did your 1200 mile service yourself?

I've checked and checked can't seem to find out...those of us F8x owners that did their 1200 mile service yourself. How did you reset the computer? Using the E-Sys program? If so any instructions on how to do it?

Why would you do it yourself when the dealer will do it for free?

The oil for our car is so cheap and changing oil is so simple I figured I'd do it myself.

Yeah ok but.... Cheaper than free?

If you have the DCT, there's also a software update involved which enables launch control.

Yeah man, pretty sure you don't have to lay a finger on ur car for the first 4 years. Why do it urself when a trained employee will do it for free for the first 4 years?? That is one reason you bought a BMW in the first place right? Warranty and maintenence work done for you free of charge for the first 4 years? Do yourself a favor, let the dealer take care of your car while it's under warranty. It's less stress AND cheaper in the long run.

This makes no sense. Besides as far as selling the car later, having viable service receipts is a big plus.

Not to mention if you run into a problem later and did not take it in for the 1200 mile, you may have some issues with warranty.

Agree but there is more than just an oil change involved in the 1200 mile service. Also, for that service in particular it is good to have the dealer perform it so they can log the maintenance record. 1,200 mile service is one of the first things a future buyer would look for. I suggest taking it to the dealer and letting them do the service.

Since oil is cheap and the diy change is easy I'd recommend cutting the maintenance interval in half and doing an oil change on your dime and then letting the dealer do the free change when the maintenance interval is up.

yeah all good points. Just wanted to know if the first one was possible to be a DIY. I did take the car in this morning for the service. 1 hour 10 minutes and I was out of there.

FYI : Your car can not be sold as certified pre-owned if you did not follow the service plan. Loss in value etc.

Pretty sure there's something in the warranty book that says you need the scheduled maintenance done at the dealer

Oil changes between the computer's intervals, I could see doing, but a key service like 1200mile break in service I think is not a great one to DIY. Need that electronic trail of franchise dealer service

1200mi service needs to be on your BMW service history for the car to be CPO'd in the future. Just an FYI. A dealership will consider this car worth significantly less without it. Although it is an "easy" job that can be DIY'd, but not the best idea to do so. Plus it's included. No matter how cheap you get the parts, it's not less than free
