Clear Bra Kit

Been looking for places around the cleveland area to get tinting/clear bra done for the day of delivery and came across the guy who does all of Lebron James' stuff - seems to be the most well respected, reliable guy in the area as far as I know (Northshore tint, 8 years of experience - if anyone knows anything else lemme know). If he's good enough to do lebrons' multiple maybachs and damon jones' SLR I'm assuming he's good enough to do my lowly M3

In terms of tinting, he uses llumar and solargard - I had asked about F1 ceramic but he advised against it - I'm set up to get solargard put on but don't know too much about it - anyone have any experience with it?

As for the clear bra - he uses venture shield and was able to actually find a pre made kit for the M3. He did ask however, if I would like to use the kit or have a bulk one custom made. I have attached an image of the kit, it says e90 but i'm assuming it will be no different for the e92. Should I go with this kit or for custom?

I was quoted 810 for both the tint and clear bra together - is that reasonable?

810 not that bad dealers will charge you an arm and a leg for the clear bra.

I'm just having my dealer tint/clear bra my car so that it will be ready when I pick it up. They are charging me $295/tint and $495/clear bra. So your price sounds about right.

Anyone got pics of a clear bra applied? Specifically the edges of it?

That doesn't seem too bad. Price might be a little high on the clear bra. Tint job better be clean too!

lol, yeah I told them that it better be perfect! I didn't really have much of a choice anyway though, because I will be driving 800 miles home the day after i pick it up.

^^^ I am in the same boat as you (figuratively, as I think my boat will not get to North America for a few weeks )

I need to drive ~800 miles home too....clear bra is a definite priority for me.

It should pretty much look like the one posted above with the addition of the side mirrors. I think it only goes up the hood for about an inch or so though.

skeptical about clear bra

I must admit that I am skeptical about the purported benefits of a clear bra. My 03 E46 M3 black/grey suffers from some obvious road wear (especially in front of the rear tires) so I clearly understand the hazzards and damage of not using it.

That being said, what does this stuff really do? It prevents chips but you have a plastic film all over the car with seams/edges everywhere. In addition, if it gets removed, the paint will have an uneven wear.

IMHO, just let the paint wear.

Please offer a counter opinion or point out the error of my logic, because my brain says "protect the investment" but my heart says "it looks like HE double L"

Is clear Bra the same as Ziebart's Diamond Gloss?

I agree with you if your car is silver. However what if your car is black or blue or red. All the chips with orange peel really looks bad. What's worst? A bunch of orange peel in the first few months? Or eventually uneven wear. I'd say uneven wear cause that wont happen for a while. In the mean time if you travel a lot on highways those chips only get worst and worst.

Do you think a white car would need it much? Or will it be good enough if I get a good Paint sealant? Please suggest me the best sealant you know about.

I never had a white car before but I would think on lighter cars it will not be as noticeable. I had a 95 325is in Montreal Blue and the orange peel was terrible. A friend of mine had a 540i in blue as well and we both had the same problem. I bought touchup paint but never used it.

How about protection from door dings? Would it help to have the stuff on the doors as well?
