Who has gotten a software update lately? M Mode Not Activating
Hi guys,
Picked up my car from the dealer after being in service/repairs. June Production 2014- 4000 miles Service Performed: Charge pipe cracked and needed replacing. Dealer serviced the oil and did the CAN resistor bulletin (61-24-14). SA told me they updated the software with one that barely came out; I wasn't aware and would have opted out of it since the car was driving fine. Same w/ the CAN resistor bulletin-- I feel like fixing these leads to newer issues when they isn't an issue to begin with. Picked up the car and noticed the M1 and M2 steering wheel buttons were not activating. Everything else works fine, I can adjust my settings but I liked the press of the button to my driving modes. I would see the M1 or M2 on the cluster blink a few times and go away. SA told me bring the car back next week.. I don't have time for this crap. Kind of annoyed. Is there anything I can do to fix this on my own or its a programming/coding thing? Here we go. Lol. Thanks guys |

Crap my car is going in next week for the 10k service and CAN resistor. I got mine around the same time as you. Hope the software update doesn't screw up my car.

Hmm, this probably isn't it, but I have to push my M2 button twice (it blinks after one push) just to confirm I know that MDM is on.

Did you try programming them again? Maybe some settings are wiped on software update. This wouldn't be a big deal, if they are not permanently broken.

Try again this morning. When they recode the car the changes don't "stick" right away and it takes some modules a few hours to start working properly again. I've had the M1/M2 button problem exactly as you are describing after coding my HU_NBT and KOMBI modules, they would have reset both. Bet it better this morning.

Its not the setting being wiped as the OP has explained he can still change and set them in the iDrive menu. I have had the blinking M settings icon on my dash and unable to use them but not had the Can Resistor update. My car had the battery disconnected for a while whilst i went away on holiday it flashed and was unable to use the M modes for around the first 5-10 minutes of driving when it began to work again.

I sent mine in for software update and it reset a number of my personalised settings.
For eg, the sports gauge does not appear on HUD after I press M1 button. just need to do the personalization again. |

What do you mean by program again? Yes, some settings are wiped out during the update. I went to the Idrive and reset M1 and M2 settings. Same thing.

do u think they have the old software version on file and can restore the car back to the way it was? Also, do you know how long it takes to do this kind of work? I'm asking cause I would want to just stick around for them to finish it at the dealer. Thanks

Crap! Mine is in for the CAN resistor and program update now. Why would they freaking continue to program cars if they know the software is buggy? Maybe I can call and have them halt programming...let's hope.
