Cobb charge pipe fitment issues

Hey guys, I blew my OEM charge pipe a few days ago and ordered a Cobb pipe to replace it. Upon attempting to install the new one, it doesn't seem to want to fit completely onto the throttle body. Does anyone have any insight as to what I might be doing wrong?

It doesn't appear to be caught or stuck on anything and it just won't slide up any further.

Just installed mine last week. It takes a bit of wiggling but it is a nice tight fit. Make sure you pull the O-ring out of the stock pipe and lightly coat the mating surface with a little fresh oil. ( not dripping but light surface coat) make sure you get it all the way on before snapping the clip back on it.

I do have the C clip, I just didn't have it on the pipe as it wasn't seated all the way onto the throttle body.

Did you have issues getting it to fit onto the throttle body? It looks like the o-ring on the OEM pipe is nowhere to be found unfortunately.

What have people typically done for a solution? Grind the pipe?

+1000

Return the Cobb and Buy an ER Pipe.

Cobb CP has fitment problems, every time. These should be fitting much easier for those that said it's tight. They are too tight and put a lot of pressure on the TB.

As far as O Ring, supposedly its the same as the oil filter O Ring (Dont shoot the messenger).

Do a quick search, you'll find this is a common problem. We've had a few overnighted pipes out in the past couple weeks due to the Cobb issue.

Most people decide to get another brand.
Evolution Racewerks is the most popular option. VRSF is a very good option as well.

VRSF is going to be the next step if this one doesn't work out. I'm taking it to a shop to see if they can take a shot at it since I need to take the car on a 4 hour trip on Thursday, so time is really a factor at this point.

+ 1 for switching to VRSF for better fitment. I have not had one complaint and we sell a lot of these.

That surprises me as Cobb has always made high-quality products. That being said, I bought a VRSF and used the Cobb instrux. for install because they are very close in design. If I recall, the VRSF was snug but I thought I remembered a gap. It took a long time for me to properly orient the CP against to the TB...just make sure it's flush, you have the O ring and seat the C-clip. Take it out and drive it. You will immediately know if it's leaking or not.

re you able to seat the C clip as it is now?

First time I installed it I didn't get it seated properly and it popped off. Pulled the intake off again and just took a little more effort and now all is well. I know it fit properly as I test fitted it to my throttle body while I had it all apart for my valve cleaning.

You do need to O-ring for a proper seal recheck the original charge pipe for it.

Yeah, I had pretty much all Cobb parts on my STI and I never had any issues like this.

Nope, the pipe wasn't sliding up enough to seat the C clip. It would just pull right back off.

It's good to know that someone was successful in installing it, that gives me some hope. It's at a shop now so if they can't get it on it's looking like I'm heading to a VRSF pipe.

The biggest install issue is that there is no "wiggle room" It would be 10x easier if you could wiggle it back and forth, it would slide into place but without the room you are restricted to lube and force. It is a good part, in a bad place.

+1

There are a few thread on here of people reporting the same issues. I am not sure what the actual physical issue is, but may be a batch issue. Best to email COBB support to get it straightened out.

Also make sure o-ring is transferred and properly seated.

Don't mean to revive a dead or dying thread but I recently bought the Cobb charge pipe and had a similar issue.

The solution is to remove the 4 bolts that connect the throttle body to the intake manifold.

Then attach that to the charge pipe. Then re-orient the charge pipe and throttle body and rebolt the throttle body with the charge pipe attached.

I figured this out after hours of trying to muscle the charge pipe on last night.

As someone else said, it is just a tight fit.

hope this helps.

I didn't have to unbolt my throttle body. I used a long pry bar to GENTLY nudge the cp (at the map sensor fitting) onto the throttle body while wiggling it up and down and it popped right on.
