Why Are My Rear Lights on During Day?
I recently retrofitted LCI taillights on my 2010 E92.
They look great, but I noticed when my light switch is in the "off" position, my rear taillights are illuminated as they would be while driving at night. I had the parking brake on and the engine running. This thread says that DRL for the LCI are no longer just halos for the E92. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=636963 Does the retrofit with new harness somehow tell the computer to keep the lights on? My pre-LCI lights were always off during the day (with halos on) and would only come on at night with Automatic selected or when I just manually turned the lights on. I am getting my lights coded, but wondering if I should code that out or just leave it alone. Or is it some kind of error? I always want my halos on. I personally love having the rears on all the time. I've been rear-ended twice in my previuos M3 because I was slowing down going around corners by downshifting my MT and distracted kids hit me because of no brake light.

Mine are on. 2008 Pre-LCI with halos as DRL.

Every pre lci car I've seen has the rear light DRL. BMW recently only made the angel eyes DRL and tail lights NOT DRL's when the lci Lights came out around 2011. So people saying that they had them coded to be on have the newer BMW's. The fact that you changed lights shouldn't have had any effect on whether or not the DRL rear lights are on instead of off. They were likely always on and it was just never noticeable. |

They were probably on before, too. As far as I know, the tail lights are on at all times on e92/3s (except 2013 models). Unless you turn off DRLs

Even if the halos are your front DRL, you should still have the tail lights on as your rear DRL.

E92/E93 have had rear DRL on by default since they came out. They stopped doing the rear DRL around 2011 or 2012 I think, not sure why. But you can enable or disable the rear DRL with coding.

I am pretty confused. I just saw another LCI 328i 92 and he definitely had no DRL on his rear lights. It was some old woman, so I'm sure she didn't have it coded.
Come to think of it, I've literally never seen DRL in the rear on any BMW. Are you guys sure? Anyone have pics during the day as to how this would look? Again, my light switch is position to OFF. |

A lot of times it's not that noticeable anyway since the sun is so bright. You'll mostly notice it when driving through shadows or under an overpass or a gloomy day. It will just look like they have their lights on. The LED tubes and license plate lights will be lit. The rear DRL was only enabled by default on models with LED light tube tail lamps and xenon headlights with angel eye DRL.
