I think you are referring to Double Clutch Transmission?

Not sure if its available for non-M but for M cars, this option is a snip at only £2,500!!

I have heard rumors that BMW is considering DCT as a direct replacement for their traditional automatics.

Can't see why not.... VAG have offered DSG across the VW and Audi brands in Golfs and TT's for years.....
BMW are a little behind the curve here.....

I`d say its VW that are behind the curve. They`ve had the technology for 5 yrs now but haven`t been able to make it strong enough for the RS models. BMW "knock one up" and mate it straight to their most powerful V8.

Either way .. it's been a good marketing point and a popular option for VAG.

I'd be really surprised if BMW didn't eventually offer the DSG across the range.

I'd be very surprised if it didn't end up being standard fit long term.

Well, lets not forget the Veyron... from VW

Apparently one of the main reasons that Audi havent used them in their RS models is due to the lack of space. The Audi TT's engine is mounted transversely (sideways), thus creating space for the transmission. RS4, R8, RS6 engines dont have enough space for DSG.

It will be interesting to see which DSG/DCT will be better, seeing as there are a lot of versions coming to the market! VW/AUDI, BMW, NISSAN, LEXUS (8 speed!!), MITSUBISHI, and apparently Mercedes too!

The latest bmw sport autos are very good btw, drove a 5 with one last month, very very quick changes compared to my 4 year old 530D steptronic in manual mode.

Honestly if DCT is faster than the step we use, then blimey !

My only quibble is that with my tune I have to drop boost quite a bit before a change which makes it seem slow, the actual change is lightening fast.

I ran one of the new MK2 TT's for 2 x months before swapping for the 335D - the DSG box is amazing.. truly instant changes.. the slushmatic in the BM is really poor i'm afraid to say in comparison. Don't get me wrong I love my 335d but the VAG DSG in night and day ahead of the current BM auto.. same about the paint finish & FWD (reason I got shot of it). The new TTS with 4WD 300BHP Turbo and DSG will be an awesome car, the FWD version is a POS, wheel spin city!..

Picture of my old TT below:

The wheels and colour combo of your old TT look fantastic.
I reckon that no manufacturer should allow more than 200bhp on a FWD car, as any I have driven are torque-steer nightmares.

There is no comparison between the VAG DSG box and the BM auto since the DSG is an advanced dual-clutch automated manual and does not use a power draining torque convertor.

I have never driven a DSG car but can only imagine how good it must be.
