Just did plugs and coils...want JB4 but do I need a new CP?
Hey guys, so I was waiting to get a JB4 until I did my coils and plugs which I did yesterday. However, a buddy told me that I should upgrade my CP before I do the JB4 as the stock is weak and can blow. Should I do the CP with the JB4 or can I get away with it?
If I should, another question is what do you recommend? It seems like ER CP's are pretty popular. Might as well get a BOV with it while I'm at it. Tials seems too quiet. Thinking HKS. Any other recommendations on BOV? Don't want meth (as of right now...lol) but single or dual bunge? Current set up: ppk v2 DCI 74k miles Thanks in advance.

I ran JB4 for about 10k miles before upgrading the CP and was ok. Then again, my friend's CP blew on his completely stock 335i at 80k. So it just depends on your personal preference.
I would recommend going ahead and replacing the CP concurrently with the JB4. There are several out there. VRSF and BMS are both affordable and do the job perfectly well. I have one of each.

Without an upgraded CP, you'll be on borrowed time. I ran the stock for a few months on map 5 with downpipes and intake, but I ended up buying te ER dual bung with the Tial. I would get two bungs because they're only $15 each and you'll have the option if you ever wanted to run a dual nozzle set up which I plan on doing. Better atomization from two small nozzles rather than one large nozzle. You could always tap one later, but that will cost you a lot more than $15 if you decided to go that route. It's hard to base BOV sounds off YouTube, but HKS is a good option. I really like the Tial.

There are multiple versions of stock charge pipe. The issue with most are with the early versions made with softer plastic. If you have a +08 car, you should be ok. My stock charge pipe, on a 09 car, was solid. 15-17 psi tuned for almost 20k miles out of 40k total miles. And I have a nearly a dozen road course track days with that car as well.

You should be fine but there really is no guarantee. Some people throw a tune on and blow their CP first day out. Others go several thousand miles or more.
If you don't want to be inconvenienced when it blows out of nowhere, I'd highly recommend picking one up. We get a few emails every week of people in desperate need of a charge pipe sent next day air, it happens a lot. |

Regardless the charge pipe is a weak link. It should be on your list of things to do on the car but I think you can go ahead and get the JB4 first but plan for a charge pipe down the road. Mike |

Will it blow off tomorrow? Probably not. Could it last another 5k, 10k, or even 15k miles? Possibly. Either way though, you have some "time", but it's definitely something that you do not want to keep stock. If anything though, I'd look into getting an FMIC first, as it appears you don't have one either. I can tell when timing corrections are being made and as a safety mechanism my car will not pull as hard (pulling comparable to stock) when I see the oil gauge rise a tick past half. It's not alarming, as it generally only happens when I'm gridlock (when am I not? lol) but I do notice a difference and I know a FMIC would just overall give me more peace of mind and not feel as sorry for my baby. |

i had the stock CP for about 10kish miles with JB4 running an e30-e40 blend. Never had an issue.
Get the tune first, then get the CP. or if you are that worried, get the CP then the tune. |

The CP just cracked at the C-Clamp on my 2010. Luckily it just cracked a little bit where the C-Clamp holds on to it and I was able to use hose clamps as a temporary bandaid. It may be leaking a little bit but am just running Map 4 at the moment to keep targets low and monitor boost levels until I get an upgraded CP.
Dont know the exact boost I was running but I would guess 17-18. I was running ~E30 with latest BMS backend flash and latest JB4 firmware on Map 5 and 4/2 setting. NOTE: With the latest firmware and the 4/2 setting (Backend Flash Only now) in JB4, the cars now run higher boost. It's difficult to find a post that clearly lays all the details out but I think its 16 or so on Map 1, 17 on Map 2. With some E85 and Map 5 I would guess I was running at least another lb or two of boost on top of Map 1. |
