RB Turbos with VTT Inlets review

Just wanted to update everyone with what to expect with this combo. After a couple days a couple hundred miles I now feel comfortable sharing my experience. First let me say that the sound is absolutely addicting turbo spool is LOUD and very noticeable over stock. I was a little worried about the VTT venting to atmosphere it scared the shit out of me on my test drive but let me tell you when you stab the peddle and lift the sound is similar to a BOV or tire chirping "childish but fun".

As far as performance well at this point it is common knowledge that Rob Beck has proven that his products imo set the bar far stock hybrids. So with that being said I wanted to give a little feedback on my setup with VTT inlets. I was looking for a quick spool 500-550awd whp and this is the setup for anyone with these power goals. The first couple miles a did take it easy and just ran Map5 JB4/Cobb Race flash with e60ish kept boost at 17psi. I can tell you that spool is a tad slower than stock snails very minimal about the same amount as when I went from stock to 7in intercooler. I really have to say the first time I went wot I quickly realized how bad the stock snails lose power in the upper powerband. The car will now pulls and pulls all the way to redline with ease and just doesn't stop!

Fast forward to today I had finally fixed my meth leak and was very excited to try out map 3 and started with a modest 40 add and worked up the boost curve. I settled at 75 additive with flat 19-20 psi from about 3k to redline and the car is a animal with plenty of duty cycle left ! The acceleration is brutal and plenty fast for my needs especially in Buffalo NY "not a lot of competition" to play with. So to sum it up it cost a lot more that I anticipated it took longer for the install but it was all worth it in the end.

Great awesome review.

There are quite a few inlet kits now curious to know why you've chosen VVT?

Thanks for the feedback on your experience. I'm taking a good hard look at tackling an inlet job in the near future. Not sure who I want to go with yet or I may even make my own.

I heard from a "Bimmer Bro" that had the inlets, RBs and supporting mods that if you are pushing the car hard it gets about 2mpg & I was wondering if this was true.
Just plain 93oct, no e85 mixes.

Ok update car is running very good and no problems so far to report. To answer the questions about the inlets. The reason was pretty simple I wanted to stick with what would be simplest for my shop to install, and also I do not have a BOV or care to add one. The package was purchased from a local forum member who had everything NIB ready to go so that was another reason for these particular inlets.

The gas mileage really I could care less I am running e55-e60 and about half and half thruway/city so to answer that I averaged 15.2 before install and 14.0 when I got home tonight. All things considered is pretty good considering what type of power we are pushing. I can say that once I get my appointment with the only awd dyno here I will post up before and after from last setup should be a BIG difference. I have the N20 sensor and am ready to turn it up once someone finds a solution to our transmission until then I plenty happy for now!

One more thing I did want to mention was that there is not even a hint of rattle on any and all settings on menu 10-12 with the JB4 . That alone is worth the purchase but the sound and power are a nice bonus lol !

The more power you make the more fuel you use, they go hand in hand.

Yes this makes sense that if you are going WOT your gas mileage drops to 0....

Just dispatched a new 5.0 with at least exhaust and drag radials even with hitting the kick down from 3-2 to about 80 from a slow roll. Did I already say this combo is fast lol !

Nice review. I recently had the MMP inlets installed in my 09 FBO w/ RBs E92 and aside from the install being a pain and having to purchase a new CP as the AA CP doesn't work well with the MMP inlets, I have been very happy. It's always nice when you can actually feel a difference on car that's fairly heavily modded. I have only been running straight 93 w/ no E85 or meth and the car pulls very strong. It's more responsive down low and stronger throughout with a significantly more pronounced turbo whistle. I'm currently using a Wedge/BQ tune that hasn't been finalized but just relocated to Tampa where E85 is available so I'll probably invest in another Wedge/BQ tune for E60/85 once I get my pump gas tune finalized. Overall I'm very happy with the investment in the inlets and highly recommend them to anyone with upgraded turbos. I would also like to add that Mauricio (MMP) is a stand up guy who stands behind his product very much like Rob is.

Hey derrick, I would agree with everything you have said and can confirm from everything I have read and heard about Mauricio & MMP has been positive. I may have gone that route had I not purchased the turbos and inlets as a package from sirwraps.

I would get on that e85 tune asap I am sure WEDGE/BQ will unleash the beast. I am sure there is probably a bit more in my setup but with transmissions given up the ghost at 550whp I will play it safe for now anyway .

You should be able to smoke bigger fish than a 5.0. I just ate one last night running e85 barely beat him tho

Compman , I would love to go the track and see what she runs now. The last time I ran 1/8 mile was in 2013 I was on the old JB4 g4 board no backend flash no inline and couple gallons on 100oct and 93 with map3 boost juice about 17psi an a 8.04 at 87 mph probably translates to low 12s in the 1/4. The main reason I have not back is I have been focusing my efforts and $$ on making it faster. I am pretty sure that if I launch with this much power something is gonna give sooner than later. I will have to get up there soon because I am itching to know exactly where I stand with it being xi/auto and about 500whp. Mods since then probable added another 75-100 whp My goal is 10.99 and to get there I am going to need a lot of spare $$ laying around just in case something goes boom.
