E93 Lowered Suspension

I am bored with looking at how much room there is between the wheels and arches and am going to lower my car (no poles please on if I will or not ).

I was considering usings height adjustable coilovers from H&R and wondered if there are any comments on different types there may be and where is the best UK distributer as it seems the websites have not caught up with the E93 just yet !

Thanks for any responses in advance.

Gary

Plenty of choice Gary,it's really whether all the manufacturers have them available for the E93.

Eibach
Bilstein
Sachs
KW
Tein

I'd call Roy at CA as they seem to have the know how + all the bits you might need:

http://www.ca-automotive.co.uk/produ...faWQ9MTQ=.html

One problem you will come across is that none have the correct speed or heat settings for the E93,so try here:

Had a chat with Roy nive guy, he suggested the Sach ZF system which i will get.

How is the camber adjusted on the E92/E92 ? can the H&R special bolts be used or is it supposed to be done another way ?

Crimson you need to get everything re-aligned,find a local tyre centre with the full facilities, should cost you no more then £100.00.

It will look something like this:

I am guessing from the £100 then Hotcoupe that the standard suspension is 'adjustable' with regards to the camber then?

I did read somewhere on a US site that it may be admjustable but wasnt sure?

Thanks for your input, suspension is on order so i better find someone to adjust it

Hey CD, I bought the Sachs adjustable height and damping coilovers in the end from CA Automotive.

It took me about 5 hours to fit but have not finished setting it up yet due to the wet weather

Was going to update the post when i got it sorted as there are a few tricky things because it was an E93 not an E92.

e93 - perhaps we should start a little area which DOES differentiate the differences between the models.

What might be good would be some high RES photos taken from beneath each car showing the Different suspension setup and structural differences.

Perhaps we can get an e90 an e91 an e92 and an e93 up on Kevin Birds Ramp with one of Matt's excellent wide angle lens shots. Lots of light and then the red marker pen in MS paint

What do you guys think ?

I did take some pictures of the new springs/dampers but not the bottom of the car.

I think the only real difference when changing the suspension is the diagonal bracing struts that stop you moving the exhaust down and out of the way when you want to remove the bottom swing arm bolt to remove the rear near side spring as the exhaust snakes its way around the swing arm.

It would be good to have a little E93 area but we are a rare breed of hairdressers

... but ones with style eh

thanks for the update ... post the pictures up when its done mate

have been thinking about doing this for a while actually and finally had my sachs coilovers fitted today ... first impressions are it looks amazing and the ride is firm but feels very planted its 25mm lower than 335 factory height, no problems with rubbing at all with the 19s and i have been over some very bumpy roads this afternoon.

( pictures to follow once its clean )

good luck with finishing fitting yours crimson !

Carlos, I found the gas torch was easier just heating them up until it dropped

CD, You had yours fitted then? Have you got the adjustable height as well as damping or just fixed height?

I need to take the back up 10mm and the front down about 15mm i think, the damping has 20 positions so i set it at 10 to start with but there is a little bit of bounce so i will take it up to 15 when its not wet or freezing

I think at the moment the ride is less harsh than it was ?

yeah i have had mine fitted today , and it is of the adjustable variety ( also supplied by CA , fitted by CA at their place at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground - great chaps btw )

http://www.bigthunder.co.uk/images/aerial_view_big.jpg

my ride height is 25mm below 335 stock
my damping is also at position 10 in the middle, gonna put it up a little on the weekend to make it a little firmer.

Cool that's two of us then, the outlook for the weekend looks wet.

It will be interesting to see how you get on with 15 clicks on the damping.

I measured mine before i changed the suspension but havent measured it since to will probably end up around 25mm on the front and 15-20mm on the rear

CD, I changed the dampers to 15 postive clicks this afternoon and it has lost the bounce and feels much like the standard suspension setup.

I did notice a slight knock today going over bumps so i emptied the boot and will see how it goes.

ok thanks, i am thinking of doing the same, so good to know!

my first problem though is i dont have a jack low enough to fit under the jacking points so im gonna get one of those ultra low ones this weekend, i dont quite fancy the 'drive it up the blocks of wood' approach as a friend suggested.

Do you have spacers on the back ? I have them on the front but not the back, and now im thinking it looks a bit strange, so im gonna get another pair and bring the back ones out as well.

thanks for the update mate

When i get it where i want it pics it is, i measured it before i changed the suspension but have not measured it yet the weather is playing havoc at the moment.

CD
The front on mine is fine and didnt need spacers to clear the coilovers, the rear has 15mm spacers on each side to fill the arches out better as i have the same size wheels all round to rotate the tyres.

I run the car onto a paving slab or paving brick, I know its not professional but it works and does not damage the rims.

I think the back is where i want it now but the front needs to be a bit lower

I didnt get any pictures of the front as it started raining, but the next time i have the front wheels off i will take some

some before and after shots of the suspension

it is 25mm lower than stock 335 height

i have found one problem with the ride height though, i live in a fairly rural area and annoyingly after cleaning it today i found that unfortunately the front bumper acts as a plough for certain large horse sh#ts

BEFORE

AFTER

i really like it and reckon it makes the wheels look a lot bigger ?!!

what do you think ?
