That trap speed is the highest recorded trap speed of any 3/4er (with 300hp) Car and Driver has ever tested. Including the E9xs.
With just 300hp the 435i matched the S5 with DCT at the qtr (13.1@107 for both as tested by CD) In respect of the driving experience there is really nothing new added by the xdrive, all complaints are consistent with what's been said about all 35is.

So .87g with all seasons. Impressive. And no MSport brakes which probably would have helped with the braking complaint. And very little under steer. Seems to say that an AWD BMW can be as sporty for a road going car compared to its RWD counterpart, at least under non-track conditions.
For comparison, my xdrive 6mt (335 though) did a 13.5 in the 1/4 mile so this being .4 seconds faster is very impressive. Auto really helps the numbers but Id still be inclined to get it with a 6mt. |

"The only other 435i coupe we’ve tested came with a six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, and this eight-speed-automatic xDrive model thoroughly trounces it to 60 mph by 0.7 second."
Wow - that's a huge difference. The #s are pretty impressive, from my recollection those seem very close to the E90 M3s acceleration figures.

Interestingly if you look at the 335i rwd 5-60 mph numbers (rolling start) there are exactly identical to the 435i xdrive (5.5 for each). Bear in mind the 435i xdrive weighs almost 200lbs more.
Not only is the xdrive posting the highest trap speed ever recorded by CD for any 3/4 series I-6 with 300hp (N55 or N54) it's also killing it on rolling starts. I think they should rename xdrive to magic-xdrive. This is incredible, good job BMW

Great dynamic results - except for the braking - but I question the choice of equipment on this car. The summer performance tires, MPPK and M brakes really make this car perform within a hair of my 2010 E92 DCT M3 and if you're spending a lot of money anyway - why not? And I don't get the comment about the steering, but maybe that's the tires again.
Anyway, I get Car & Driver's criticism of BMW's current offerings, but I'm also getting a little tired of them beating that same old drum. |

When considering the F30 years back I looked into the active hybrid. All of the ones I test drove had all seasons. You could tell there wasn't enough grip on those tires since the AH3 has instant tq so the tires just squealed at every stop under heavy throttle. I knew I had to look elsewhere at that stage, all seasons suck in the dry for these cars

I own a 2wd version of the 435 with 19 Bridgestone runflats. I must say I have no complaints with the standard brakes, they are big improvement from my 13 328i.

Guessing larger diameter rotors over the x28,etc. I'd like to see a brake test between the standard BMW system and the M-system to see where the advantages come in. If it's just a track advantage (less brake fade and heat build up), most won't see that. Looks cool though

Yeah but my gut feel is that the market (especially here in Canada) is embracing the S4/S5 "model" - all weather sports/GT - although I expect that the M-B C450s and higher spec 340i/440i models will continue to outsell the Audis. Having driven several S4s and S5s I wouldn't say they have any major advantage other than real tires and a spare. With so much traction and power available I don't even think the torque vectoring rear end is a big factor. Throw a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports on my car and I'll be ready to do battle.

I don't doubt our cars are hampered by the run flats, check this thread out http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=890681 Audi will gain it's market share but we are a long time away from Audi dominating Mercedes or BMW at least in Northern America

Why does C&D keep test driving different variants of the 3 and 4 Series?
Do they think that their opinion of it will change only to just end up copying and pasting the same review of the other F3x variants? |
