2015 BMW X5 M (F85) vs. Porsche Cayenne Turbo Comparison In-Depth Review

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Another Comparison ... Enjoy

http://www.caradvice.com.au/353225/2...arison-review/

Verdict:

Though their ‘more is more’ pitches leave both hyper-SUVs wanting for very little, value – that $45K question – certainly creeps into the bottom line. Yes, the Cayenne Turbo is slightly more flexible in offering a degree of off-road adaptability, but both hang their ultimate heroics, beyond their myriad niceties, on tarmac-tearing prowess.

And it’s the X5 M that nails its promise most confidently…lightness and simplicity be damned.

Subjectively better looking interior and exterior. More power, faster, and all with a $45K savings. Well done BMW, well done.

This Cayenne Turbo is missing the Sport Design Pkg, just like what GTS has.

What a load of garbage. So the X5 wins because it's cheaper? Well guess what the natural competitor for the 560hp X5M would be a 560hp Cayenne turbo S. It would be fun to see them complain about price when it goes head to head with that!

The X5 is nothing more than a high riding station wagon. It can't even go off-road a foot away from the pavement - it ends up getting stuck miserably. Dubai is the land of offroading and even here nobody ever makes the mistake of taking an X5 offroad. The Cayenne handles sand dunes with ease. X5 (M) IMO is a glorified soccer mom crossover wagon. Better get the ///M5 which is a purpose built super saloon rather than a wannabe SUV with an M5 powerplant.

It's like comparing an M4 to a 911. They both are built for the same purpose. M4 costs less, but the 911 does everything better.

The sport design package vastly improves the appearance of the Cayenne. A must if you go that route. But I'd take the ///M any day of the week 😜

Sounds like you're salty because you have the Cayenne? 50% is a pretty big difference... and the Turbo S is even more expensive, so that speaks even more to X5M performance to price.

Luckily, most of the world isn't concerned with riding sand dunes through the UAE. If that is your sole concern, there are much better options than either of these vehicles. Salty indeed.

It never went anywhere. The E70 X5 M was also a favourite as well. People automatically assume the Porsche because it's more performance orientated than the BMW, which it is, but in this case and at this price point, I would take the X5 M as well. You can complain about the price and what the natural competitor which is fine, go buy the much more expensive Cayenne. Most would be happy with the BMW and save $78k.

That's the first I've seen of a DTC shifter on an auto transmission. Is that getting common now, or is it indeed a first?

For that price, the cayenne should come with the single color exterior, that plastic makes it look bland.

Who's says it can't go "off-roading" - we call this off-roading at the track

(btw BMW needs to make the new version of this same clip)

the X5M wins hands down for exterior design- Porsche as usual takes a perfectly good design and they f it up on the LCI which they clearly did here.

However....

The quality of the Porsche interior- however dated, is undeniable.

So perhaps a better question for all you Bimmer lovers out there is this-

How much would the X5M be if it used the exact same quality materials on the interior (and updated some too) as the Cayenne?

I think the price diff would drop by 50%.........

Still, lol I would take a RR Sport S/C over all this.......

For England!
