~$125 At Home Walbro 450 LPH (E85) Conversion

Did my stock bucket conversion yesterday, it was too easy.

What you'll need:
2 "Blue" Butt Connectors (Plastic Removed)
1 Piece of Shrink Wrap Tubing (~16 gauge)
1 Walbro 450 LPH E85 Pump w/ Kit ($125 Shipped - "cole464")
Soldering Iron
1 Ballpoint Pen
Seal-All
Small Kitchen Knife w/ A Serrated Edge
6 Small Worm Gear Hose Clamps
5/16" Barb Connector

+ Some Basic Tools

Wish I had made a tutorial, but i'll upload a video along with some pictures I took when i get off work.

Quote:
How to:

Remove the pump assembly from vehicle (Youtube is your friend). Rinse with water.
Pull off the spring loaded top half of the assembly if you haven't already removed it.

There are two "black layers", you will need to unattach these from the white base. They are held in by only about 3 points each.

Use a hot flat head screwdriver and take a little black connecting material off of the "top layer". Freeing it from the white base.

For the second layer ("pump layer") cut each of the 3 "arms" right down the middle with a small serrated kitchen knife. Remove the factory pump, slide in the Walbro (same diameter as the factory pump) with its included filter securely attached.

At this point the pump will be able to slide up and down with some force, we will secure it even further in a later step. Fit this "pump layer" back into the white base, now with the Walbro and filter attached.

Take your soldering iron and "plastic weld" the arms you cut before back together. Youtube "Plastic Welding" for details, really simple. Once they feel secure, add some more plastic material from your ballpoint pen case onto the joints using the soldering iron.

Now fit the "top layer" back into place, "plastic weld" the edges of the white base and the edges of the first layer, fusing them together. Add more plastic material from your ballpoint pen case where needed.

Swap out the plugs using the butt connectors and heat shrink. Stagger the placement of the joints.

Attach the supplied fuel-injection hose to the Walbro, use two clamps. Insert the 5/16" metal barb into the other end of the fuel-injection hose, secure that end with 2 clamps as well.

Now you're ready for the test fit, the purpose of this is to find out where the Walbro should be secured within the "pump layer".

Install the bucket as you would a factory bucket, rotate the Walbro so the attached fuel hose clears anything that may be in its way during the final install. Also pull the Walbro and filter assembly up a bit, away from the bottom of the white base. This will keep everything from being bottomed out.

Remove the bucket, rinse again with water (if needed), let dry. Apply Seal-All to secure the Walbro's position.

Once the Seal-All is dry, start installing the assembly. The 5/16" metal hose barb will side right in to the vehicles factory plastic fuel hose (factory connector removed of course), secure this with two clamps as well.

Done.

There are some logs floating around, it is the same fuel pump used by Fuel-It for their "STAGE 2" upgrade. It will run you $405 plus shipping back and forth, since you have to send in your stocker. Great option for the non-DIY guys.

It's been working great. No issues.

It's nothing too complex imo...

Cool

Hey guys,

Me and my bro plan on doing this DIY. I will be ordering the pump today from Amazon: http://smile.amazon.com/Walbro-TIA48...rds=walbro+450

We should have it all done in 2-3 weeks (I'm going out of town). I'll try to make sure to take plenty of pictures and maybe video.

We offer the same pump for the same price as Ebay and Amazon, consider supporting the vendors who keep these forums going.

What he said.

At least you'll know Jeff will ship it right away and you'll receive the correct part.
+1 for customer service too.

Jeff, sponsering or making a video might lead to more sales

I completely agree with supporting forum vendors though.

Jeff ,

I mean no disrespect at all, but I have a Prime membership as well as an Amazon Chase card for a 3% cash back bonus, so I went with Amazon in this case.

Don't get me wrong, I do like supporting the forum vendors, and have actually made a couple purchases from vendors before, especially when it was impossible to find on Amazon. I get the reason for developing the relationship and knowing you're getting genuine parts, but I'm also pretty ingrained in Amazon's ecosystem, personally.

Just as a suggestion, you could probably also list your products on Amazon as well...
