oil level is at min, help!
just checked the other day, oil level has finally dropped to min line. It is a gradual drop and the computer tells me to add +1 quart. My oil change service is due in april, so do I just top it off with a quart of oil? What brand should I use? and How do I do it? I'm asking because I misplaced my manual, it's home somewhere but i need an answer quick. Thanks everyone.

Yes, Castrol or Mobil 1 5w30 unless you can get 0 weight. Just pour it in.

Open hood
Engine cover slightly left of midline. It's black plastic. Right ontop of engine cover you'll see black oil cap about 3 inch diameter Twist off, and add 1 qt oil. Lefty loosy, righty tighty. Good luck |

after putting it in, it usually takes several miles for the sensors to pick up an accurate reading.

I bought the BMW oil from the stealership... but from what I've been hearing, oil top off's are covered by warranty... same with wiper blades, etc...

from what I understand, free top offs are for non-M vehicles. With that said, many service advisors would cover it for Mcars just to maintain a proper relationship.

Do yourself a favor and take it to the dealer.

I did bring it back to the dealer 2 weeks ago and i thought that they had topped it..but didn't.
i told them that 1)my blades were not clearing 2)windshield wiper fluid low 3)oil level low and the service guy said, all that would be taken care off. I said ok. and a few days ago i noticed that the Windshld fluid was still low, and oil level is the same. I double checked the papers and he/they didn't do any of those mentioned EXCEPT the blades and tire pressue. And he wanted me to Give him "5" when BMW calls.. No way!.. I just ignored it. Well, going back to get oil change in april. I have topped it myself and also added wndshid fluids.. now things are all good. Dealers say one thing but does another or not doing it at all.. what's up with that? |

I went this morning to my local dealership. after 3k miles on my car the oil was at the minimum. top offs are not "covered under warranty". if you bought the car from them the they'll pay for it otherwise its out of pocket. cost me 7 bucks.

With any BMW dealer all you have to do is complain about their service give them a 1 on their 1 - 5 rating and you will be taken care of from then on. Also request another SA since he isn't on top of his game. |

This thread was extremely conveniently timed. My oil level at minimum light came on tonight and the dealership is not exactly an option tomorrow- or anytime this week for that matter. I'll be picking me up some 5w-30 tomorrow!
