Golf R400 - looks like it's going to happen

It's going into production, will be one fast hatch. BMW need to up their game.

I wonder if the interior will be "jewel like!"

But seriously though, that has gotten me interested.

That rear spoiler has to go. Too chav.

Anyway, I am not interested in a VW Golf that will cost over £40k once properly specced. Wrong make, wrong price.

It's still a VW golf.

£40k.....

It's still just an expensive VW golf.

Having to constantly explain 'it's not a normal golf, its a high end version of a average model' would do my tits in.

Why? Because 'It's still a golf' - a small family car.

Bit like saying 'I have a skoda vRS'

'You just said you drive a Skoda, I have completely switched off'

Don't you think VW should watch their own ads?

Will be a great car, however who will buy it and actually be able to enjoy it?

It's 40k and insurance will likely be mental.

So it's going to be purely people with some serious cash for a VW Hatch.

One of the reasons the GTI saga works, is it's affordable by the 'average' person.

With this I am not sure what VW are aiming at.

Personally a 'cheap' R8 type of car would been good.

The VW range other than the Golf / Scirocco is pretty dire.

Edit: having watched the vid above, yeah definitely agree.

Don't you get the feeling all these companies are making hyper versions of normal cars because soon it's all over?

Still, 40k for a golf, LOL (golf owner)

You sound like a broken record. Stick your record needle where it is more effective.

Yeah I do.

Just posted this in response to I3 / electric on another thread.

http://ec.europa.eu/clima/policies/t...s/index_en.htm

Manufacturers are going to get a kicking in a few years IF they can't shift low / zero emission models.

Garage List
I would buy this. Always liked the GTI and was put off buying the R due to the cheap lease deals (which i missed) and the risk when they flood the market the values will drop like a stone.

Will perhaps buy an R in a year or 2 and tune but if this R400 ends up good it will likely hold its value well so should be a sound investment.

Are they going to be limited run only?

The problem is that fewer and fewer people are buying proper sports cars, so the companies are making SUVs and crossovers instead, and super sporty version of them and the normal cars.

Look at things like the Nissan Juke Nismo!

Yet after a few years now you don't see many Toyota GT86 on the road.

Putting serious engines and drive trains in to sexy looking sports cars is 70k upwards, but put it in to a souped up version of one your family cars and you can afford to do it for a lot less!

Well I think it sounds like a cracking car. 4wd and near as dammit M3 power for £40k. Crikey!

In the link they say the A45 Merc is due to get a similar uplift.

Good for car fans like us that these über-cars exist, when I was 17 I'd have dreamed of having one, read all the articles in the mags and talked to mates about it. Now I'm 51 I'll post my thoughts here, then pop down to my local VW dealer and see how to go about a holding deposit.

All this is a joke really though. In the grand scheme of things this won't fix shit. Fix all the shipping, 3rd world countries pumping out crap etc then start nailing everyone down more.......

Not enough exhaust pipes for me, after the 4 large oval pipes on the R, I was hoping for at least 6 on this

Agreed re the pipes . Think the R looks good in certain colours but the exhaust looks so Halfords, it's proper shite.

Single exit both sides would look so much better

Yeah totally agree, the UK could remove all cars and factories etc that result in pollution, however globally, I believe that would be taken up by China, India, Brazil etc.

Not to mention the states.

With air travel and ships increasing in size of fleets...
