JB4 and Injector/Coil/sensor failures?
As the title states, a very knowledgeable friend has told me that he believe the JB4 can be attributed to engine sensor, coil, or fuel injector failures. He has a few different people tell him that they had experienced these failures shortly after installation of the JB4. Granted, this is third-hand information and the true cause of the failures he knew about could be something other that the JB4, but the relation between JB4 install and failure is too coincidental to be not related.
This was a surprise to me because I had never heard of these issues before on the forum where there are thousands of people running the JB4, nor did my google search show any of the same issues. So before I decide between the JB4, or the Cobb, I'm interested in hearing if anyone here has specifically had any electronics related failures after installation of their JB4. And if so, any details you could provide would be appreciated (i.e. N54 or N55, what JB4 rev, other mods, etc.). Thank you! |

The JB4 is not the reason the codes show up. The JB4 allows higher boost and strain on already worn components. Regardless of which tune you choose, if there's old plugs or weak coils, you'll get codes.
N54 & N55 are two different engines. Which do you have? |

I've got an N54.
I'm not talking specifically about codes but rather an all-out failure of the components. Codes can be cleared and don't necessarily mean something needs to be replaced. Failed components need to be replaced and that gets expensive. I think part of the issue is that I don't know what's going on inside that JB4 box, so it's hard to understand the potential impact it can have when plugged into the ECU and the engine harness. |

More recently the JB4 has gotten even safer with logging all 6 cylinders, even when you're not doing a datalog the JB4 is constantly monitoring everything, and if something goes wrong, you'll get limp mode immediately. Bottom line, get a JB4. Tons of great features, and can be combined with a flash tune also (MHD, BB) |

That's what I understood the JB4 to be all about. Which is why I was surprised to hear what my friend was saying.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback! |
