Fuel injectors done....

So many threads with N54 misfires and rough idles, so I'll make it short and sweet.

I'm a newb when it comes to engine work.

All my injectors done by a mechanic. Still having misfires but less. Suggested to have plugs, coils, and walnut/carbon blasting done.

After reading and youtubing, I can do the plugs and coils myself (I hope).

1. Where can I buy plugs and coils cheap? Ebay? Amazon?

2. Other than sockets, wrenches, and spark plug boot grease, what else do I need? Do I need some type of coating between the plugs and the engine block (to avoid seizing)?

Thanks

You need a special spark plug socket, the normal one won't fit. I always use anti-seize on the plug threads.

ECS sells a kit here: http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E90-335...ion/ES2581741/

Spark plug socket here: CTA Tools 2376 Spark Plug Socket - 14-Millimeters by 12-Point https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EDN3V0G..._sqMvvb0PV236G

read the misfire sticky also. The plugs and coils, should resolve the misfires as that's the most common issue on the N54. Walnut blast should be done every 45k, idk what the actual interval is, but that's my .02

Did he make sure to code the injectors? Could cause some problems if not.

Anyone use a torque wrench when tightening sparks? I hand tighten first then use a 1/4 drive when the engine is cold to prevent over threading

Just tighten them to feel. I've read somewhere not to put anti seize on the threads, not sure why.

Yes, using a torque wrench is ideal it should be 17 ft/lb. I heard if you use antiseize it will throw off the torque spec.

Something about promoting over tightening. Never had a problem personally using it.

If you put antisieze, you will have to adjust the torque setting - I'm not sore what the calculation is.

Fwiw I've always just torqued to 17ft lb, no antisieze, as do probobly most folks. Never heard of anyone using boot grease on the cp though...

Get a good torque wrench and make sure you practice using it first!!

+1

I put a dab of anti-seize on the threads, and snugged the plugs down. Didn't crank real hard, just a little "umpf" after they were tight.
