Punched gas car shuddered and spit CEL
Hey guys,
I was driving my 2011 335IS with 27k miles on the highway going ~50mph when I hit the gas to change lanes. As soon as I punched it the "service engine soon" light came on and the car started to shudder whenever I tried to give it a little gas. (I was in sport+ mode and immediately took it off) I put my hazards on and stayed around 35mph for 7 miles until I got home. Every time I would try and speed up a bit to keep from going at an absolute crawl the car would shudder/vibrate very noticeably. So I refrained from going any faster than 40mph during that time. Literally the moment I turned onto my block the engine light went off by itself and the shuddering vibration was completely gone. Like night and day difference, but I still did not go above 40mph just in case What the heck happened? I'm under warranty still so I will be bringing it in, but really want to know. Thank you |

Sounds EXACTLY like when my HPFP went bad the first time at 14k miles or so... A week later it happened again with just a couple dozen miles, another new HPFP. Take it to the dealer, I'm assuming that the HPFP is still under warranty so even if the car is out of warranty you're covered... Good luck bud

Thanks guys
Guess I will have to bring it in to find out for sure. So many possibilities hope it's just the Fuel pump and not something that will be time consuming to repair. I will report back when I have the answer so as to help anyone else if they experience this. I tried to be as detailed as possible in my original post. Warranty ends June 18th! |

Lol at you guys guessing... Turbo, fuel pump, HPFP, charge pipe, plugs... Could also be bad muffler bearings!
OP, without the codes no one can tell you exactly what the problem is. |

Like he said. Could be something as simple as spark plugs. You won't know until you pull the codes.

I had the same thing happen accelerating hard out of a coffee shop a mile from my office. Car wouldn't take any power without stuttering. It was fine for my drive home. That weekend I opened it up, walnut blasted and changed plugs. When it was open, I noticed some carbon that appeared to have broken off te valve stems and gone through the engine. My suspicion is that is what caused the stuttering. Given your mileage, I would walnut blast and change your plugs.

Just drove it today (have an appt with BMW next week) and noticed that the miles to empty was reading 257 on half a tank. I've never seen this many even on a full tank. Not sure what that is about

At least the injectors for the '11 are cheaper than mine. Post....'08 I think? They switched to the cheaper solenoid injectors.
