E92 angel eyes can it ever be too hot?

Still on Stock bulbs, I read somewhere that 100w could potentially cause damage and I'veheard of HID iin the fog lights melting the reflector. I've also read about HID angel eyes but I am just afraid I'll ruin the actual angel eyes. I've seen a few cars driving around with their angel eyes look either not full or just not connected with empty spots on various parts of the actual "eye".

Get LED instead.
Couple threads on this forum proved that HID kits can damage the headlights.

you can get LED ring replacements for ~100 from various places and open the headlights yourself. It's very easy to do on an e92.

So a 100w led would be too hot?

a 100W led would be ridiculously bright. Typical values are 1600 lumens (double the light from a 100W bulb) from an 18W white LED.

when you say 100w LED , you are talking about 100w total for the kit (each side 50w)
I have not never seen a kit for our cars that has 100w on each side.
The brightest we offer is 160w total output (80w each side) and that kit comes with a fan for cooling or else it would not last long.
The most popular choices are the 80w total output (40w each), they offer a really nice balance between the inner and outer rings and do not need a fan.

a bulb that actually uses 100 watts, absolutely yes that could cause damage to a headlight. a bulb that has the output equivalent of 100 watts, that's a different story. LED's are so much more efficient so a few often times 5 actual watts of power created the output of a 35 watt bulb.

So basically no LED's will never use the amount of power that a halogen bulb uses so they are safe. There are many of them out there sold by vendors of this forum that are designed for the BMW Angel eyes. Take a look around and there are lots of reviews from users about what works well.

Thank you, just afraid the 80w on each side is going to damage the eye, but everyone seems to be using those so I can't see the problem... No horror stories yet. And yeah I've read some that say "equivalent to 404 halogen" or whatever it says but it's pretty clearer.

bottom line is if they are LED they will are designed not to cause any damage to the headlights. I have not seen a e92 LED angel eye replacement that has caused any problems from heat. The choice you have is just want light you want to use in your car.
