330i rear windows won't go up...but do

Hey there
I've searched for this issue and can't find anything with my exact issue.

I have a 06 330i and whenever I put either one of my rear windows all the way down, it will not go back up. I've found threads that say it's a regulator issue, but, if I turn the car off, wait about 5 seconds, turn the car On (i leave the fob in) the windows will go back up.

When I put them down and try to put them back up, they attempt (they go up maybe a couple mm), but immediately go back down. It's almost like a sensor is stopping it?

I can put the windows 99% down and have zero issues putting them back up. It's only if they go down 100%.

Any info would appreciated

I have this exact issue! Changing the regulators didn't solve the problem for me. Mine have the issue when I do the auto down ( 2 click) , but if I manually put the window down (one click) it works fine. I've just got into the habit of keeping them locked and not using them

I've thought about locking them too, but I love to drive with the windows down and putting the rear window down to the same level as my driver side cuts out the wind slamming into my ears.

I've never tried the manual down. i'll have to see what that does for mine. thanks!

No problem, try that and let me know if it works for you because I haven't found anyone else with this issue! I guess you and I got lucky lol ... Do manual down and manual up, don't use the auto feature at all

It happens to me too. It doesn't go up on auto most of the times if it's all the way down.
I learned to use the single click up.

I have the same problem. I haven't solved it yet. I tried the reset procedure and that didn't fix it. I think it might be the anti trap protection kicking in. Maybe the motors are drawing too much current. We might need new motors but that's just a guess. I'd love to know for sure, but have a few other fixes to do before I get to this. If someone solves this please let us know!

so, my findings....

rear driver side -- manual down -- attempting manual up fails the first time, second time goes up. Repeated 5 times, same thing every time.

rear passenger -- manual down -- attempting manual up fails, no matter how many times....and now it won't go back up lol. even if I turn the car off/on...going to let it sit while I cut the grass and then see if it will go back up.

I also believe what stewy said, might be some sort of anti-trap issue....but what do I know lol.

I bet it goes back up after the grass. It seems like the motors are struggling and need to cool down.

Went back up but took two times for shutting down the car and starting it back up. I was waiting about 2-3 seconds after the car started to put the window up (which didn't work). I shut the car off and when I turned it back on, immediately put the window up (manual/one click) and it worked.

*sigh*

i'd take it to the dealership, but this issue, driver side halo/daytime runner just died about 3 weeks ago, engine fan goes insane loud sometimes (yet another turn the car off/on and issue goes away), and a hug paint issue on the roof......why bother lol. 140K+ so...can't really complain all that much.

I am in the same boat.
But my issue is only when the temp is child outside.
As for attempting it after a short break......dont know.
But I just keep Trying again and again and even eventually it will go up.

For me the issue started this last winter on a very cold morning.

Sorry to hear about the other problems. It's weird that it affects the rear windows. Maybe a different motor back there with a flaw that we are all hitting? Mine is an 06 also. Maybe it was a bad batch? Or maybe a software/module problem with the early cars. With most issues there seems to be well documented fixes, but not this one.

Same shit with my 06 330xi. I just changed the regulator on my rear driver side. When I put that window all the way up using the auto click it reaches the top and then goes back down to half way. I think my issue is the anti trap function. Idk

If it's bouncing at the top that might be a different problem. Try the reset procedure. I think you need to run the window all the way down and all the way up a couple of times, holding the button for 10s at the bottom and the top each time.

Oh and try it in manual mode and auto mode. I can't remember which it is.

Note what BMW says on the topic of pinch protection feature,
"Pinch protection system
If the closing force exceeds a specific value as a
window closes, the closing action is interrupted
and the window reopens slightly."
...and how to defeat the pinch protection

Closing without pinch protection
If there is an external danger, or if ice on the windows,
etc., prevents you from closing the windows
normally, proceed as follows:
1. Pull the switch past the resistance point and
hold it there. Pinch protection is limited and
the window reopens slightly if the closing
force exceeds a certain value.
2. Pull the switch again past the resistance
point within approx. 4 seconds and hold it
there. The window closes without pinch
protection.

Irrelevant.

It's sunny here too if that helps.

Koches issue sounds relevant, "When I put that window all the way up using the auto click it reaches the top and then goes back down to half way. I think my issue is the anti trap function."

I offered a means of defeating protection that would cause window to lower itself!

try inching it up from bottom.
push the window switch for half a second couple of times and than go all the way up.

I had the same issue after I replaced the window regulator with an aftermarket one from amazon.

It was irrelevant the first time around, repeating it will not make it relevant. Now it's just annoying. And irrelevant.

On that note, it's sunny again after a few showers. That should help the window come up, I guess.

Same problem here thought it was just mine. Replaced both regulators since they broke at different times. Never even used them. But now I just make sure I don't roll down all the way or it will never go back up. Getting good at taking door panel off though!
