335i engine temp?

I've had my 06 335i for over a month now and was just wondering what was the usual engine temp for a 335 mine sits at 110 Celsius most of the time but in bad traffic or during spirited driving it creeps up to 120. I've heard that the N54 is quite a hot running engine but coming from cars that all run spot on 90 all the time it does seem quite a bit hotter. Are these temps normal or should I be getting it looked at?

I'd say that's normal. 120c is 248f. On the hottest days I am up around 250. Once one a 100+ degree day while sitting in traffic on a highway during a long drive my needle went a smidgen over the 250 but went back down to 250 in a few moments.
But for the most part in between 240-250.
These cars do run hot

Ah good I figured it was probably ok as it was consitantly running high. When mine does go to the 120 mark it comes back down nice and quickly once moving in open air again. Thanks.

Yep you sound fine. I think your car will go in limp mode if it does actually get too hot.

Once fully warmed up the car will sit between 230F and 240F; on really warm days it can hit 250F. So you're temps are g2g.

Hopefully that won't happen but good to know it got some built in protection if it does.

Just so you're clear (none of the other posters mentioned it): the temperature you're seeing is OIL temp, not water. Those temps are perfectly normal.

Righto that makes more sense now then. I assume then if your water temp goes to high you get a computerised message?

You will get a message something like: "engine overheat, reduced power", "pull over now", then shutdown.

Good to go. FWIW I do see a slight decrease in temps right after oil changes. I go about 6500 miles between changes.
