m-sport exhaust vs bmw performance exhaust?

Is there a difference between the stock exhaust on an msport 335i and the BMW performance exhaust and how can I tell them apart? Found a brochure with receipt for performance exhaust in my glove box.

The exhaust on the m-sport is the stock exhaust they put on all of the other cars. The performance exhaust is an "upgrade" since it allows more airflow. The power gains from the performance exhaust are minimal but it does produce a better, louder exhaust note.

Thanks. Any way to tell them apart visually?

As far as I know the exhaust on an M-Sport is the same as the exhaust on a non M-sport. The performance exhaust is a completely different system and sounds much more aggressive. If you have the PE, you can tell by the thinner tip walls than stock and it should say "BMW Performance" on the bottom of your muffler.

Thanks. Now that you mention the thinner tips I think I have it. I'll double check the stamp!

If your car is loud as hell on a cold start, you might have PE. I love mine, such an amazing note.

If you see two clamps connecting them at the bottom, you've got the M Performance exhaust. They need to hack off the stock exhaust and clamp the perf exhaust.

Either that or your mufflers were replaced at one point :P

Thin tips is the dead giveaway.....aside from the sound, of course.

Why do my tips look cheap and faded compared to others I've seen on stock e9X's? Or have they just been weathered down

Seriously on cold start, it's loud. My tips are shiny and stick out more on the e90 plus it's stamped.

I don't think the 328i had chrome exhaust tips until the LCI. They were just left as unfinished stainless steel. You can buy the chrome tips from the 330i or stain silver tips from the LCI 328i and stick them on, or just have a shop weld on new tips.

m-sport exhaust and stock exhaust are the same thing.

BMW Performance exhaust sounds soo nice, but it will come at a hefty price.

There is however, a middle point. The IS exhaust. Slightly louder than stock, but a little milder than the performance. Costs about $500-600 new from tischer the last time I looked (about half the price of performance exhaust).

OR the PE-style mod. Around $350 all in and works pretty much the same as the PE.
