Noisy Steering Wheel

My 06, 325i, base model makes a "chattering - squeaking" noise when turning the wheel, especially when cold. I suspect the clock spring for the air bag and steering wheel controls. everything works OK with no error messages.

I plan to remove the steering wheel and figure how to lubricate the layers of wire tape wound around the wheel.

Has anyone had this problem?

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Kurt

With no associated problems with buttons on wheel I am hoping simple lubrication will do the trick.
