Getting New Tires, Can I go Wider than the BMW standard size?

Have an e92 2008 coupe, have 225 in the front and 245 in the back. The regular standard.

But I'm wondering is it possible to have wider/bigger tires without it affecting the car? Wonder if anyone has ever done this.

And is your call all wheel drive? Because if it is then 225F and 245R is the WRONG tire size.

With these rims you should be able to go 235 front 265 rear safely. U said you have 245 in the rear but with these rims the standard is 255...

Front is 18x8 and ready is 18x8.5. You can look on tirerack website to get suggestions based on your car. Where are you located? What's most important? Mileage, performance, quietness, ride, etc. That would, point you towards a tire type.

Located in the Tri-State area, performance is most important. But I want the tires to last 40-50k miles

You can go bigger but you'll need bigger wheels.

Most decent performance tires last 15,000 miles. sounds like you want to look at an all season tire like the Michelin Pilot sport A/S3 or Continental DWS.

Yea, I'm looking at the Michelin Sport ones, I'll get those.

But I just want a bigger and wider size that I had previously. Just trying to make sure if I do, I get a bigger size that doesn't compromise the car.

Limiting factor for you is the wheels. I've been on 235 or 245/35-19 front 275/30-19 rear for years.

Yea, I just want the widest for the OEM rims. I'm not looking to get new wheels.

Is their an absolute proposed larger size for my OEM rims? Thats what I need most, plan to go in today.

The widest ones for your OEM rims would be a 255/35/18 in the back, the pilot super sport are very wide so a 255 in michelins is almost like a 265-275 hankook tire.
If you go for a 265 in the rear it will be too wide for wheel and will bulge like on an SUV and under really hard cornering the sidewall can buckle. for the front a 225 is perfect as well but you have a little more room so for front you can go 235, but then because of the aspect ratio your front tire will either be taller or shorter than the rear.

I had these tires on oem wheels on my 335d.

tirerack says 265 will fit an 8.5 wide rear on the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. I've seen 20s sometimes but 19 seems to be the most often upgrade. fits the car. 19x8.5 front, 19x9.5 rear. that's what I currently have.

I'm running a 255 35/18 squared setup on an 8.5" wide wheel. No rubbing up front. 35mm offset.

Hm, So If I go 235 in the front and 255 in the back will the fronts be shorter?

255 is the recommended size rears for BMW right? How are people putting 265 or even 275 on the rear and getting away with it?

255 isn't recommend for the car. it's recommended for your narrow wheel width. 265 is max for your wheels.
do you know what the numbers mean in a tire size?

first number is tire width in milimeters. second is profile. This means the sidewall from rim to tread is this percentage of the width. For example. a 200/40-18 tire would be 200 milimeters wide, or about 8 inches. the sidewall would be 80 milimeters, or about 3.4 inches, and the overall diameter would be 24.8 inches. 3.4 + 3.4+ 18. you need to count the sidewall width twice for top and bottom. so a 235/35-19 is about the same outer diameter as a 275/30-19. both about 26" . I'm my case 25.5" front, 25.6" rear.

Not really.. I told you I was a bit lost lol

All I know is I've always gotten 225 in the Front and 255 in the back this whole time. The exact sizes BMW puts on them. What the tire guys have always said.

So you're saying that 265 will be okay for my OEM rims? And 235 for the front is okay aswell? Bumping it up 10 on each pair - I should have no issues?

That's all I'm trying to make sure.
