I would cut out small pieces of 3M double sided tape, apply to the badge, and then stick it on.

buy a new black one on eBay for a few bucks, will be better than trying to re apply with old residue still on the old emblems, and to get them lined up isn't worth the headache.

you mean a black 328i sign? wouldn't those need 3M double sided tape as well?

IMO I think it's better to just order a template so that the badge will sit exactly the way it did before you debadged.

Yeah order a black badge with the tape already installed off ebay. Thats what I did.

Once i got it, I taped around my old one with blue painters tape so I knew exactly where everything was and then took off the old badge and put the new.

Since you already debadged, you'll want to look at the template drawn in this thread
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=486352 it will help you lock down the placement.

Wipe off and make sure the surface is clean. Would adhesive promoter not work for this or betalink? Just make sure it's on "right."

I wouldn't use Betalink - it is fairly permanent & will most likely ruin the paint if you try to remove the badge in the future. Betalink is used mainly for body panels.

3M tape is the appropriate thing to use & is what comes on emblems from factory.

are you sure it's tape? traditionally, it's not tape - it's some sort of epoxy adhesive that's heat activated. How you install a new emblem is you heat up the trunk with a heat gun, and also heat up the emblem to a specific temperature (it's pretty hot - over boiling water). Then, you press the logo onto the trunk lid and hold it down for a specific amount of time. That's not just double sided tape..

It certainly has! Had my body shop guy use it just last week to re-badge in black. He loved it and put it in his files.
