Trim surrounding start button
Hey all -
I just noticed that some of the paint is flaking off the trim around my start/stop button. Anyone else seen and fixed this? I assume it's easy enough. Where did you find the parts? Dealer only? Thanks |

Yep I posted a thread a while back on this... crappy fit and finish this time around on the LCIs.
Methinks you can get the dealer part separately, but I haven't cared much lately about the flaking to really do a hard-core search yet. |

Mine is starting to flake too....I don't care,I will wait till it all flakes off then it will be like new.....but for new car look OCD guy, think the dealers got some parts for ya! |

Mine did the same thing. I had it replaced under warranty just prior to it running out. The replacement part is p/n 61319146356.

It's carbon fiber, the history of carbon fiber dates back to the late 1800s. Renowned inventor, Thomas Edison, used carbon fibers as filaments for early light bulbs. Although these fibers lacked the tensile strength of today’s carbon fibers, their considerable tolerance to heat made these fibers ideal for conducting electricity.

If thats the case, you better never remove it! but if you do decide to switch it up, ill come swap trim with you! Interior looks great and the red highlights are perfect. i may wrap the trim on my start button in montego blue vinyl to match my blue stripe in have on the trim currently

I bought a new start button assembly to replace mine, then discovered that its pretty easy to take the trim rings apart and fix it.
If you pull the whole button assembly off the dash, the chrome ring can be removed by sticking tooth picks under the 4 clips and removing it, The black piece that peels can then be taken off as well. Its a rubberized coating that doesnt seem to stick very well to the plastic underneath. Once its started to peel, it can be peeled off with a finger nail, or sanded as well. Strip it clean, prep and repaint or cover as desired then re-assemble. I wish I knew that beforehand, would have saved me the $41 button. |
