HD Radio

Is the HD Radio worth $350? Ive never experienced it, just heard the "CD like sound" commercials.

Depends on where you live. HD Radio selection in my city is very poor. It goes in and out on the stations that I do get HD reception.

Get 6Fl instead or Sirius. I think HD Radio "for now, at least" is not a wise choice.

On the one hand, it does sound better than regular radio, when inside the smaller digital reception footprint.

I know PDX has lots of HD... check their website for local stations.

But it's still radio...

If you get very good reception, its great. If you are on the edge of where you can get s stong signal, the switching back and forth between HD and regular signal is really annoying.

I see HD Radio as a $350 option in BMW's as like trying to charge for RDS... for me HD Radio is a feature/subset of standard radio, and both types of radio offerings are free. So why $350 for something that should be as standard as MP3 playback in the OEM HU?

At the end of the day, even a base BMW audio system requires an additional $1350 to be able to have Sirius, iPod and HD Radio full capabilities. There is no speaker upgrade, no amp upgrade, no Bluetooth, no GPS Navigation capability for that kind of money, just more sound input options going thru the same mediocre medium... sorry, but that doesn't make any financial sense to me.
