Sticking headlight wash

My nearside headlight wash cap is sticking 'proud' after it's been used to wash the headlights. Not a problem as such as I just tap it down again. Does anyone know what operates the mechanism inside and whether lubricating it would do any good? I didn't want to squirt anything down there in case of damaging electrics whatever. Ta guys.

Hi Helen,

The motor has gone in the mechanism. Mine did the same the dealer has to order a whole new unit in and this comes unpainted so it goes to the spray shop before fitting. The good news is there is access underneath so the bumper does not have to come off to fit.

No harm to the car in the meantime just give them a call to ask to order a new unit and make sure you tell them which side of the car it is.

Everyone is going to be out checking their cars now. Get on the phone quick on Monday morning or they will be on back order from the factory.

Thats what I was told when they initially looked at it. You wash the lights and it goes mainly back down but the back edge sits about 3 mm proud of the bodywork. You can then push it with you hand the remaining bit to get it back down fully.

If its the same as that it requires a new unit and will go throught the process I said above. Took them about a week to get the part in and painted and I reakon it can probably be fit why you wait, drink a coffee and order your new M3.

Yep, that's it in a nut shell Gibbo.

Looks like a call to Stratstone then and oh they did have a M3 in the showroom last time I was there. Just need to re-mortgage the house to buy and run one!

Ahhh the innocence of youth

me old mam always said "if you have to borrow money to afford it, then you can't afford it". Good advice, apart from a roof over my head and cars when I was younger I've pretty much stuck to it.

Course, that's why I'd not test drive an M3, I might be tempted, better to stay away!

I am sure you could get an evening or weekend job to fund your M3.

This is uncanny Paul, wonder how many more there are. How many before BMW should re-call or at least invite customers back to check it out.

Don't be so hard on yourself. I am sure there is a market for someone with experience.

What I meant was that you do a professional office job through the week days and some of these skills you could take into some personal work at the weekend for yourself.
