X6M Long Beach Blue after 4 days

So my X6M arrived in NJ on April 6th and I got some quick photos from the guy who accepted it!

Then it arrived at the dealership on April 9th. They sent it to get wrapped via flatbed on the 10th. When it was returned, they discovered that the installer had failed to wrap the roof and had bent two chrome pieces around the window.

They sent it last Friday again by flatbed to another installer to do the roof.

Fortunately the BMW Ultimate Driving Experience was this past weekend and I was able to see a X6M LBB up close and personal. I went off to drive an X4 with a racing instructor while my wife drove a 325 and 425 with her instructor. I was shocked how much power the X4 had (300hp) and how well it handled on the race course. I also learned that I need to learn how to brake harder into turns! And that I could have lived with less horse power, but it was at this point I realized just how much fun this car would be. My wife also learned that she definitely wants a BMW M4 to replace her 3 month old Jaguar F Type that she had to leave behind in Dubai.

The car arrived back late Monday and I picked it up Tuesday afternoon.

HOLY S@&T is it beautiful and fast! My first thought was dammit, i should have already bought the radar detector and placed an order for a radar jammer (alas illegal)!

I had created a playlist in iTunes with songs to test the Bang & Olufsen. Let me tell you, I love it. Sounds amazing. I had the Harmon Kardon in my Mercedes GL 500 in Dubai, and I like this better. The highs are crisper in my opinion. I have wanted a B&O forever, and my wife has always been NO on the home unit, but she didn't know about this one.

For reference, she said I could get whatever i wanted including the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and I didn't even bother. i have loved this car the moment I laid eyes on it in Dubai two and a half years ago, when we went with the GL500 instead - she hated the X6 then, she accepts it now.

So i went with the everything package. B&O, infrared (need it to go fast with deer everywhere on backroads), and every other option possible. I did not get the carbon fiber interior, because she hates it and figured wtf - give on this one. The aluminum interior is better than I thought. It is ridged and looks really cool.

I also got the entertainment package for my son. Not sure it will be used for movies or not, but he likes that he can surf net and look up places to insert in my navigation up front - makes him feel useful. One downside to this is he can control an awful lot with the remote control. Need to consider turning off some capabilities if you have younger children.

How does it drive? Loud. Fing loud. Especially when you play with the throttle button (the extent of my car knowledge). And FAST. Fing fast. It gets up to 60 without trying. Hell, barely touch it and you are at speed limit.

Thank goodness for the amazing heads up display! No worries on what the speed limit is. Only worry is staying within 20 miles per hour above it.

Is there a downside? Forget the gas mileage. Burned the first tank in 3 days! And it is loud and sometimes wind noisy. A small price to pay for this much power.

A couple of notes, my driver side power lock button doesn't work. A problem when you want to let people in! It is on order and should be here soon. Also if you aren't aware, the brakes squeak sometimes. Freaked me out yesterday and today, but called service and found out it is normal for M brakes.

Did I say it was fast?

Thanks BMW, I am a convert for life.

Dave

PS I have attached photos for you, I didn't take them, my CA did so some of them were taken landscape and had to be rotated for you to see. Apologize for the last photo, but had to show those of you thinking about it if it will make you smile. Next time i will get a model!

What a stunning color - looks great in your photos. Can you tell me, is the contrast stitching on the leather standard and did you opt for extended or full? I am considering going with black Merino. I have an F15 X5 5.0 M Sport now with black Dakota, no contrast stitching on that, but also have an F11 550i M Sport with black Dakota leather that has contrast stitching. Thanks in advance.

Sorry not to reply sooner on leather. I went full and the contrast stitching came standard. You may be able to choose another contrast but not sure.

I love the black leather.

Curious. Did you select the chrome window trim over the gloss black? Or did it simply come that way?

I chose the chrome because I thought it looked better against the blue on the BMW Build Your Own page comparing the black vs chrome. I like it but would also be happy with the black.

Which build are you choosing?
