Carbon Fiber Roof - Rock chips??
Just wanted to get some opinions on the M3/M4 Carbon Fiber roof. I have 4,000 miles on my M3 and there are several permanent dings/indentations on the CF roof where possibly rock chips may have hit the the roof and left a permanent indentation on the roof. I was also wondering if you drive in a hail storm with golf ball size hail - would it damage the CF roof since its virtually indestructible??
CF is supposed to be strong and withstand small impacts but I'm not seeing this on my vehicle. I have a clear bra installed but nothing on the CF roof area since most kits don't have that piece as an option. Does anyone have similar problems with road rash on the front CF roof area? Have ordered a clear bra piece for the first 12" on the CF roof, hopefully this will help with future problems. Your opinion is greatly appreciated. Thanks |

I had xpel installed on my cf roof. My cf roof has looked flawless since day 1 . Any good shop should be able to cut and install a clear bra for the roof..

I have a few too. I used a urethane clear to fill with. None of the chips went all the way through the epoxy/clear. Let it dry for a few days then use a fine polish to blend followed by whatever your normal wax/sealant procedure is.

Personally, if I saw anybody with carbon fiber parts, you better get PPF to protect it, cause clear coat just isn't enough. If you spend a couple thousand on a body part you damn sure as hell can spend a few hundred more to act as a sacrificial barrier for it! -RyanG

That was the first part of the car I had Xpel Ultimate applied to, along with the B pillars.

I have had rock chips on the roof in past cars. I am unsure how difficult it would be if not impossible to re-clear the roof it got chips. Painted roof is one thing, CF is another.
Currently with 32 miles on my car I have the whole front clip and roof. Next week the doors, quarters, trunk and rear bumper. had to do them at separate times for a variety of reasons. |
