Is a 330xi the same as 330i?

In my manual, it refers to a BMW 330Xi as well as 330i. I've searched the internet to find out more about the Xi and it looks like 330Xi is the US name for the 330i. Is this correct?

Xi denotes 4WD mate, (for american markets) so there is a difference.

Really? That's interesting, I'd love 4wd on mine. Why only for the US?

Because of Their climate in places, the weather can be severe, needing thr 4WD For the winter.

Trust me, if you like your power and acceleration you would not enjoy your car 4wd, it kills the acceleration once rolling. Very sure footed tho for sure.

I guess BMW don't see a market for 4wd saloons in the country, where the price would be a lot higher than in the US.

actually the Xi's seem to be getting some serious times in. Their tranny doesn't work like the power sapping Audi one.

Its not just Audi's thats power sapping, its 4WD trannies altogether.

They quick due to awesome 60ft times and 0-60 due to fantastic grip launching. This brings in good 1/4mile times but usually at lower trap speeds, as then the 2wd cars pull quicker once rolling.

Wow, I wasn't aware that you don't have xi's or xd's in the UK...
I don't think it has anything to do with your climate... If nothing, your country is very rainy, and x-drive would be quite useful in that kind of climate...

We get x-drive models here (Croatia), and this is a Mediteranean country with mild winters..
The x-drive models we get here are: 325xd, 325xi, 330xd, 330xi, and 335xi.

About the performance of x-drive models:
0-1000 meters:
325i is roughly a second faster than a 325xi
330i is roughly 0.5 seconds faster than a 330xi
330d is 0.1 seconds faster than a 330xd
330dA is 0.2 seconds slower than a 330xdA

The fact the UK doesn't have the xi/xd-models is nothing to do with our climate - it's to do with the fact that the cost of re-engineering the 4wd cars for right hand drive is exorbitantly expensive and unjustified given the small projected sales volume of RHD cars.

My last car was an Audi S3 ... I badly miss the 4wd and amazing traction ... sniff.

Have to say, the 330 is not as sure footed as I hoped it would be.

yes, sadly its the cost of converting to RHD for us brits... if the JApan market was big enough then we would get them too, but I doubt they do X 3series models there.

I miss the traction of my MAzda6 MPS, very veryh quick and stable in all conditions... Miss the 4WD.
