3m 1080 vinyl

Looking at doing my interior in one of the brushed metals. Does anyone know what direction the grain runs? Say I buy a 5x3' roll, does the grain run the long way or short? Obviously the dash piece is rather long and I would need 5x4 if it runs the shorter direction. Thanks.

I also have the same question, but for carbon fiber.

The CF is close to symmetrical (the rectangles in one direction are slightly longer than those in the other direction) so it wouldn't be too bad if its switched. But the brushed metal stuff definitely needs to be in the right direction.

+1, its a 2x2 stitch so it can go either direction

I'm not sure on the Metallic scotchprint though

The Di-noc CF is symmetrical, but the 1080 CF is not. The rectangles in one direction are longer than those in the other direction.

It's all preference on which way the pattern goes when applying it. If I was doing the 1080 I would want the longer rectangles to be parallel to the ground. on the long dash piece. The difference is pretty minimal though.

The patterns all run from top left to bottom right (from 3M site) so basically it all runs the width (NOT the 5' standard roll height) so if you want brushed metal you are kinda screwed into buying a 5x4' when you really only need 5x2 or 5x3 at most. Like said earlier, CF is more preference but either way would work.

i ordered from AVS and they told me they cut it with the pattern the long way and then trim the sheet to the width i order. Double check with the vendor you choose. I like AVS and MetroRestyling for vinyl vendors.

Garage List
3M 1080 Carbon Fiber vinyl.

It looks amazing and most of it turned out pretty good. However Im a cursed perfectionist and am not happy with how the corners/ends turned out. The carbon fiber vinyl is pretty thick as I imagine the brushed aluminum is as well. When covering it you have to stretch it with heat and the heavier vinyl regains its shape. Makes wrapping a bit more difficult.

I have gotten carbon fiber, brushed and metal gloss. They all ran along the longer part.

I made a $51 offer and they accepted. I am pretty sure this is the cheapest price anywhere.
