Parking assistance

You guys I just bought a 2012 f30 335i

How can I find out if my car has parking assistance ?

"We're the car parks by itself "

I saw a couple of 2012 on YouTube that does that

How can I find out if mine does it or not

You should have two additional parking sensors on the sides of the bumber and you should see the first icon which is selected in this photo in your PDC menu:

Btw, with parking assistant the car won't park itself. It will control the steering wheel but you need to still shift into reverse/drive and gas/brake.

Yep, forgot to say that.

Related, someone apparently tried to put this accident on the park assist: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...-hood-car.html

In that video it looks like he's only pressing the brake and he says he only has to "control the speed".

Is it true the car applies acceleration automatically?

Nope...

He has an automatic gearbox, so as soon as he releases the brake pedal, the car starts moving (either forward or backward depending on gear).

This is why he only needs to use the brake.
In a manual, you should do this yourself.

folks have already answered this question. I would just like to mention that this is a very cool feature. It needs improvement. I rarely use it. 2 reasons:1) it identifies a spot when ur way past the actual spot, almost a full car length ahead. This isnt very usefull when you need to park quickly while theres other cars behind you. They will think youre just moving along, and then all of a sudden you are backing up to park. 2) Not usable at all in cities. When there are cars straight behind you, you need to pull up to the spot and park quickly. You dont have the luxury of being car length ahead then try to park.
But a cool feature nevertheless. When i do use it, i wished i could use it more often. I am agreat parker btw without it. Simply a cool feature.
In this version, the driver controls the gas and break. I read that future models will actually control the gas pedal. This is something I am completely uncomfortable with. I control the gas pedal moving the car, I do not trust the cpu to do it for me.

Garage List
After 18 months I still can't get it to work. As mentioned, you have to engage it and then be past the space - with any cars behind completely confused. Here in the UK, people will usually indicate before they pass the gap and often, they'll swing-in slightly as well. I've tried to engage it with no traffic around just to practice, and still no joy. Good thing I didn't pay extra specifically for it. For me, it's an example of technology that's impressive but in reality, no one uses it much.

Based on earlier reply, if you have an auto transmission the gas is managed automatically.

Also, it seems that as years have gone by, there have been improvements such as minimum parking distance. In 215 version, if I recall correctly, it only needs 7-8" front and back which is impressive.

Agree with your other points though about it potentially not being great to use in a lot of traffic. However, that problems happens all the time even if you're parking yourself (cars will run up right behind you).

I had this in my last custom ordered F30 but skipped it when I ordered the current one. The system itself worked well enough but I just never had occasion to actually use it (I think I counted 2 times in the year I had it). I couldn't even find a real-world scenario to demonstrate it to the guy who ultimate bought the car from me. If I lived in an urban area I might reconsider it though just for fun.
