Picked up my SO/SO M4...

Well it's been >4 months in the making, but I finally picked up my Sakhir on Sakhir M4 from BMWSF this weekend. It's about time!!

I had been driving my '04 E46 M3 LSB Coupe since I bought it back in '04, so it's a fresh update to my ///M garage. In that car, I've done countless track days (probably upwards of 70 days, but who's keeping count), lived in five states across the country, and drove 90,000 miles. I'm keeping it as a track toy for now, but am still weighing in on my options of what to do with the car.

Specs on the new car:
  • Sakhir Orange Exterior
  • Full Leather Sakhir Orange Interior
  • No Sunroof
  • ///M-DCT
  • Adaptive M Suspension
  • 19" Black Alloys
  • Executive Package
  • Lighting Package / LEDs
  • Side and Top view cameras
  • Harmon Kardon sound system

So, on to the new one. First impressions on the car, while it's being covered with clear bra by Premier in Fremont:
  • The first thing I noticed is just how much bigger the car is than my outgoing E46. Not so much from outside, though it's apparent when side by side, but I really notice it from the inside
  • Loving all of the technological features - quite considerable compared to my bare-bones E46. iDrive is amazing. ... and writing letters and numbers on the knob? wow!
  • VERY Torquy motor. I'm still in the frustrating break-in mode, with only 46 miles on the odo, but can't wait to take it out on a trip to Sonoma next weekend
  • Much more comfortable than the outgoing car. The adaptive suspension is working wonders on these 3-Dimensional San Francisco roads (and I'm not talking about the hills)

I can't wait to get the car back from Premier and get to driving it. Next steps are putting the miles on, and getting my coding done.

Seems that there's a Cars & Coffee on Treasure Island on Saturday. I'll be there!

SO, SO nice. Welcome to the club. You got the best color. It's a good thing you got it when you did because you can't order SO now.

I ordered my M4 last July and got delivery last November, just before Thanksgiving. I saw a SO M4 at my dealer before I ordered mine and immediately decided that was the color I wanted.

After 4 months now, I love it. I have 6MT, SO full leather, the silver (light) 19" wheel, moonroof, bi-xenon headlights, Exec package, ad the side and top view cameras. It's the best car I have ever owned. I traded in a 2010 335i with the M-Sport package which I liked a lot, but I don't miss it; my M4 is so much better in every way.

I went from a 2006 Dinan M3 and it is really hard to explain the difference. Technology in the two is no compoarison. I really loved the E46, but the M4 is better in every aspect. I really did not feel the size difference as much as I thought I would. The manual transmission in the M4 is much better than the MT in the E46 and it was very good.

I think you will really enjoy the M4 and the steop up in technology.

Thanks! I wouldn't have the car any other way, at least with "standard" colors. I saw the car and color at Le Mans race this past summer, and decided that I wanted it.

I'm looking forward to taking it out as well. Like Sakhir's saying, technology has also been my biggest surprise this far. It always bothered me to have a rental Corolla with more technology than my M3; no longer.

For the size, I must still be getting used to it.. and a short freeway ride to the clear bra place wasn't really enough to get a good sense. But I do stand by the fact that it feels bigger, not really from when I stepped in the F80 the first time, but when I got back in the E46 afterward - it felt "small".

Can't wait until I get home on Friday to go pick up my car, all clear bra'ed and ready to hit the roads.

Are any of you going to Cars & Coffee?
