around 16 l/100km...

So I've been driving this sweet ass car for about 500 km now and I am not getting good gas mileage as I should. I cheched the BMW website and it says around 11-12 l/100 km for the E92 335i, and for 335xi it says TBD. So I'm guessing it should be at most 1 or 2 l/100 km over the i's for the xi's. What do you guys average in normal city driving? My usual drive is about 25 km every day at about 55-70 km/h which i try to do in 4th gear to save gas, but I still average about 16-18 l/100km. Is it because my car is new, or is there a problem with it?

I get 14L/100km on my 328xi with like 25% highway driving.

The website stat is for people who drive the car like a grandma...lol

BUT you do burn more gas when your breaking the car in that for sure, I was doing 19-20L/100km up to 1000km!

Wow, so then i guess my 335 is doing good considering that it should be even more gas guzzling than the 328!! But I'm still not satisfied since I heard people get like 500 km per full tank and i only get 433!! this is BS. maybe its because my car isn't broken-in yet

On 80% highway driving, I'm averaging 8.3l/100km in my 325i.

The car'll suck gas back like a pig when in the break in period. City driving/stop-and-go absolutely kills the economy.

548km on 54L last fill up - so about 10L/100k - e90 335i - auto/sport - mostly highway - 110-120km/hr. I use the cruise a lot.

I am also averaging between 16-18 L/100km on mainly city driving. I have about 5,000 kms on the car and didn't see any improvement in mileage after the break in....So you better get used to these kind of numbers.

Best I have gotten on the highway is about 9 L/100km...but that was driving with my mother in the car...

31k km, 328xi, trip computer shows 12.0 and 12.1L/100 km.

If you commute to work daily with a consistent pace (say 100 km/h) for at least 30 minutes a day, your trip computer will drop significantly...

I was on a trip that was 360 km (round trip), driving with consistent highway speeds, my trip computer dropped from 12.6 (beginning of trip) to 11.8 (one way there) when I got home.

The computer is optimistic. I find it is about 0.4-0.6 L/100km on the high side.

heh.

yeah my daily commute is 200km round trip along the trans canada. that means i can reset my gas mileage after each day and get a good reading of what mileage i get.

trying to get good mileage is actually quite fun...especially since you can't go more than 100km/h on the highway because of traffic in the morning. i sorta make into a game now to see how good i can make it.

1) if you stay at a constant speed...around 90km/h seems to be best (and the speed of traffic in the right lane anyway)
2) don't use a/c
3) draft behind larger vehicles (something you can't really do often)...can't tailgate on someone's bumper...so you have to be a good distance away which diminishes the benefits of drafting...so usually only works on really large rigs...but you don't want to follow them too closely either.
4) slip car into neutral on downhills portions
5) use highest gear and often skipping gear to go to topgear.

so far I was able to manage 7.7l/100km as my best run.

there was an article in the bmw magazine saying how that F1 driver got 5.6l/100km in a 530i. but it did say he aggressively drafted trucks....I don't really do that. but i suppose, given we are much lighter than the 5 series...we could get down to 5.xl/100km as well.

edit: the latest copy of bmw magazine has an article of guys who drove a 3 series from london to copenhagen...and got 4.1l /100km. wow they got me beat.

The computer is really not a good guide especially since with a full tank, it estimates about 500 km but I rarely get to drive that long before a fuel up.

Hmm changing to Neutral is a good suggestion, I do that a lot when going down sfu. You roll down so much faster O_O

yes but also remember, when rolling up to a stop light on level ground, you should be in gear instead of neutral...because slipping into neutral uses some fuel. when you are in neutral, the engine uses a bit of fuel to keep the engine from stalling.

so in short...slipping into neutral only helps you if you are going downhill.

Hmm... do you mean that when I stopped at a red light and I'm still in neutral and holding the brakes, I'm using up fuel?

No I meant that only when you coast up to the red light you use more fuel in neutral...

Try it next time. Coast up to the red light completely in neutral. Glance down and check your fuel usage rate.

Then at the next stop light...be in second or third gear and then coast to a stop (obviously at some point you will have to put in your clutch). Your fuel usage rate will be lower.

16L/100km is the norm with 90%+ city driving. This is the fuel consumption I get.
