Creaking Seat

Hi my drivers seat creaks under lateral load. Its at the point it is annoying on every journey.

Dealer has had it in twice, adjusted and lubed but still doing it. Anyone else having this issue? I am thinking that I ask for a new seat, is that unreasonable?

Car 16mths old, with leather memory seats.

Same here - it does my head in!! My F30 is in for a service today and I asked for them to look at it, it has memory seats as well. Will report back if they sort it.

I had this issue intermittently and dealer always said they couldn't replicate the fault.
My issue was coming from what sounded like the left side bolster m, so when going round right hand corners.

I cured it by spraying wd40 into the left side seat hinge mechanism. I opened it out and sprayed in, then closed the seat up and back down a few times to let it work in. Creaking was then gone!

I had to repeat once a few weeks later, but that was 6 months ago now and it's not come back.

Worth a try?

This is a long shot, but I had a similar thing on my last BMW that turned out to be the edge of the seat compressing against the seat belt buckle under lateral load making the leather creak. It took me ages to work out that it was something so simple.

I tried WD40 and grease but it seems after a few weeks it always comes back...really really annoying.

Id definitely get it replaced if it was to continue, as agreed very annoying.

However, given the amount of bad stories I've heard of how seats look after work has been carried out on them Id rather avoid that.

exactly that place and right hand corners - they have bent that bit out and greased to no avail x2. They've got it in again Friday to have another go and then if no joy I will ask for a new seat.

They will sort it temporarily, but it will come back in three to four weeks....

Interesting... Will try that if it comes back perhaps. Why will it work better?

Interesting to note that everyone who is reporting this issue has electric seats... Wonder if it is related to how these work then?

Furniture polish is commonly used to lube window fittings because it lasts a decent time and produces a slick, low friction surface. Of course if you have proper lube, you might as well use that, but WD40 is not a lubricant.

I assume furniture polish as it has some silicon(e) in it? [Sorry spelling not my strongest point and not sure which of Silicon/Silicone it should be)

Ok makes sense. I liked the idea of using the wd40 has it had propellant so could in to the mechanism. I did think of using my bike chain oil, but concerned about it not getting to where it's needed.

No doubt there is something in the shops that's perfect but was using what was around in the garage to see if it helped.

I used to use GT85 a lot back in my mountain biking days. It's a bit like WD40 but is designed as a long term lubricant. I think it has PTFE in it or something.

It's all about GT85 as its actually a lubricant. Excellent stuff - give it a go

2 days in the dealer for the first service anyway...

They told me they had 'greased' the joint and at the moment there is no squeak. Although I have done this before and after about 2 weeks it's back. Lets see what happens...

Mine does exactly this. Right hand corners make it creak... WTF is BMW doing, this is supposed to be a premium product. I've driven nothing but BMW for the last 16 years, but I'm starting to waver!!!

well we need to start complaining as otherwise BMW will not see the scale of it and we will continue to be fobbed off as a one off, or too fat etc... etc.. etc...

Lux700 are yours electric too?

Sorry Ben, I've been away... Yes, electric seats. If I change the position it stops, but then I'm sat in a position which is no good for me. The good thing is that this is the only problem I have with the car. 4400 miles now.
