Noob iDrive Questions

Sorry I don't see a sticky on this area and tried searching too...

I wanted to know if I disconnected my cd/dvd nav unit from my 08 e90 M3 if it will cause issues like a security code needed or re-coding?

Also if I replace just the faceplate on the cd/dvd unit, will it require recoding?

Finally if I get another e90 cd/dvd/nav unit to replace mine do I need to get it for another same exact model e90 M3? To get the same menus that I had including M-Drive Menu etc.

Also is the nav unit just the cd/dvd player and iDrive hard drive located in a separate location?

So does all the car's settings get read from other sensors/network in the car? So any cd/dvd/nav unit for a post 2008 Facelift with 6 buttons will work on my 08 e90 M3?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

hi there,

1. I wanted to know if I disconnected my cd/dvd nav unit from my 08 e90 M3 if it will cause issues like a security code needed or re-coding?

no, it may throw an error on the display on your clocks if you use the car while its disconnected.

2. Also if I replace just the faceplate on the cd/dvd unit, will it require recoding?

why would you do that any way?

3. Finally if I get another e90 cd/dvd/nav unit to replace mine do I need to get it for another same exact model e90 M3? To get the same menus that I had including M-Drive Menu etc.

You would need a ccc unit from 07/08 vehicle and had it recoded to your vehicle to get it all back up and running properly. (after 2008 cic was introduced)

4. Also is the nav unit just the cd/dvd player and iDrive hard drive located in a separate location?

CCC nav is dvd and cd player only. no hard drive

5. So does all the car's settings get read from other sensors/network in the car? So any cd/dvd/nav unit for a post 2008 Facelift with 6 buttons will work on my 08 e90 M3?

any unit ccc or cic will work in your vehicle , but it will need codeing. if you go for a newer cic unit from a 2009 on, you will require a lot more. search cic retrofit

Thank you!

Is there a pic somewhere of the rear of the ccc nav so I can tell how to release all the wire harnesses to prevent a short for a dvd player swap.

Used a e90post uk diy on dvd replacement... and the ribbon holder for the faceplate broke and shorted it out. And yes it sucked very much!

Thanks again.
