Are there currently any X5 owners awaiting x5M allocation?
Anyone currently in a new X5 that is jumping ship into the X5M? Let me know if you'd be interested in swapping your lease.

My local dealer got a 2016 X5M in stock. Someone (not from KC) please buy it. I like having the only F85 in KC.

I would consider a set of forged 22s for the summer. Easier for find tires for 22s.

You meant width? On Diameter, it's 20". I wouldn't run too narrow of a tire, the X5M got too much power for narrow tires. Plus it would look odd.

/\ /\ /\ Very nice! I too concur with the Contis. I ordered a set for the wife's SQ5 and they are very capable in winter conditions! A must for those with 21" summer tires (like hers came with)...

You think the Contis are better than the Pirelli Scorpions?

I haven't seen that comparison, but their all seasons didn't make Tire Rack's top picks. For SUV winter driving, you don't need more than what Contis DWS offers. The secret for the DWS is the exclusive "biting teeth" between the treads as shown in the vid above post. I did a lot of research before purchasing a few sets of them for 2xE70 X5s/750Li/535i. Even my RWD 7 series and 5 series did well with DWS. These are the best all-season tires on snow. You can get true snow tires for the X5, but it's overkill unless you live on the mountain. Some helpful reviews here:

I know there are a lot of fans of the Conti DWS, both BMW owners, and others, but they are still an all-season tire. I've always thought the video via the attached link really highlights the sacrifices one makes in going with an all-season tire. No matter how good the all-season tire, it will fall into the category of "jack of all trades, master of none."
I don't discount that it isn't a whole lot of fun to deal with switching sets of tires twice a year, but the argument is easily made that the small hassle is worth it for the increased safety provided in both the summer, and winter months by using tires dedicated for each season. I disagree that true winter tires are overkill for the X5/X6 for anyone living outside of a snowy mountainous area. Ice and snow, no matter where one lives, will cause the same problems, and it doesn't necessarily take a large amount of either to cause a massive accident. All-season tires simply don't provide the grip on ice and snow that true winter tires do. If one is going to be switching sets of tires twice a year, why go with an all-season tire with its inherent issues, over a tire designed specifically for the season you're installing it for? http://www.tirerack.com/videos/index.jsp?video=26 |
