Transmission Fault and A.T. won't shift

I tried a search to see what this could be but can't seem to find anything similar.

Anyway, I have a 2006 330xi with about 168,000 miles on it. I did the 100,000 mile transmission service and this car has been, overall, a gem.

I was about an hour from home when this came on at start-up. I noticed it wouldn't shift out of a low gear, either in full automatic or steptronic. I had to stop at a business and when I started my car again it was gone and was shifting normally in both manual and auto modes.

It just happened again when I left home to drop it off to my independent mechanic this morning and the Transmission Fault code came on again with the same problems.

Any ideas what could be causing this? I am doomed for transmission replacement?

Anyone

Well, my mechanic did.

He's saying it's a cam sensor but he's not sure which one as there are supposedly three of them. He cleared the code and the car was running fine for a few days, then it came back on.

I was @ 15 miles from home so it was annoying having to drive @ 40 MPH in 3rd gear. Next morning I start it up and the warning disappeared and the Check Engine code was gone too.

My mechanic is doing some research and will work on it next week.

Transmission problem

I hope I'm in the right place to comment on my 2011 328i convertible. I purchased it new March 2011, I have 20,000 miles on her. In November I started having problems with the transmission not shifting from 3rd to 4th, 5th & 6th, I've had it in the shop 5 times, they reprogrammed it 2 times. The 2nd time I was on my way home (I live 45 minutes away from the closest BMW dealer) I went 3 miles heading home & it wouldn't shift out of 3rd, after they said it was fixed. I turned around & took it right back to dealer, it was still under warranty. They finally said it needed a NEW transmission. The tach reved up between 4 & 5, it sounded like the engine was gonna blow. So after waiting a month for a new tranny to come from Germany, got it back they said it had to memorize how I drive it, so after putting 300 miles on it, it's STILL doing the same thing!!!! I purchased extended warranty so I would be covered. What should I do now????? Would appreciate your help. BTW NO warning lights ever came on.
