DOT 5.1 Brake Fluid
Guys:
I don't have my manual handy (I'm on business travel)...can someone advise if the F80/F82 owner's manual recommends DOT 5.1 low viscosity brake fluid? It appears that all the performance shops now recommend this fluid for the new BMW braking systems (beyond DOT 4 - esp for cold weather). However, I'm now researching racing brake fluid, which is all DOT 4 (or exceeding DOT 4 so as not to be confused with silicone/motorcycle DOT 5). I'm probably going to stick with Motul RBF 600 for the track, but didn't know if there is a racing DOT 5.1 out there? Maybe not, since the 5.1 might thin too much when heated to track temps. Anyway, if someone could post a photo from the owner's manual, that would be awesome. Thanks! |

i dont believe a top quality dot 4 racing brake fluid will cause any problems, eg castrol srf etc.
I have used elf htx, which is available in 5.1 locally for me (I am in Australia). This is a high quality brake fluid with good wet and dry boiling points. Not sure if this is available in the US, or if it is the same specs. http://www.meek.com.au/index.php?_a=...product_id=978 |
