OT: Which 3M Tape
Just wondering if anyone had any idea which 3M tape to use for installing carbon spoiler and splinters? I always seem to find links and reference to tape in USA that don't seem to match up with tapes over here.
Think this may be the stuff but obviously want to be sure http://www.vikingtapes.co.uk/c-329-3...x#.VQlLY0K_1ja |

I'd be looking at 3M VHB tape.
I've got some on my dash cam, its not going anywhere! It comes in all sizes and thicknesses, you probably want to make sure its not too thick or it would make the spoiler not look flush. |

Well that didn't go according to plan ..... Firstly the tape didn't seem very sticky but I'm not sure if that is how it is supposed to be and bonds properly on application.
Second problem was the spoiler has I kind of lip on it which meant that in places the tape wasn't thick enough to bridge the gap between the spoiler and the body work. Anyone else had problems fitting a non-bmw carbon m-performance spoiler? |

Don't use the squashy foam type tape, i made that mistake! The sticky is perfectly sticky enough but the foam rips apart after a while!

Hmmm you might to go thicker then with non OEM stuff. That tape is seriously sticky so something not quite right, the stuff I have sticks to your fingers if not careful!

Well re-fitted with the new tape. Much better but still an issue with it not sticking towards the edges.
Could just be I have a bad spoiler? Or I need to clamp it for a bit on either side after applying, although i'm not sure how i'll do that. Still driving around with it on, it's not going anywhere as the edge nearest the back window is fully bonded and the outer edge is fully stuck apart from 20 cm or so on either side before it meets the edge. Splitter/Lip is still sat in the garage, not had time or worked out how to fit it yet. |

Splitter has screws etc for fitting.
Surprised the spoiler didn't come with tape though !!! Does finish the car nicely. If you want a bit more adjustability swab the area down with a water and isopropyl mix and use a hair dryer to dry off afterwards. Gives you a bit more tinker time. |
