Talking I Love Michelin Pilot Super Sport's!

I've done over 100 miles on them now, and i am back in love with my car! They're just better than the S001 run flats in every way, steering is lighter and more direct, less road noise & smoother ride.

I do think they need the ACS springs though, as they've softened the ride a bit they'd probably make the car too soft on the standard springs, especially on xdrives and non M Sports.

Great tyre. Had these all too briefly on a 2.7tdi Audi a4. Although expensive at the time they transformed the handling, gave me grip and confidence on a understeer-happy front wheel drive car. Had pirellii something or other before that and roundabouts at speed were painful.

You know there are some mods that you can't recommend enough, yet are slow to filter through. MPSS is definitely a massive improvement, well just NRF, but non better than MPSS. Glad you have seen the light

Interesting you say the steering is lighter, I like the sound of that. I don't like the weighted Sport steering as it actually hurts my shoulder after a long journey if I leave it in Sport

What pressures you running at? Same as run flats?

I think we need a debate and then definitive list of the best mods in priority order!

I think you once said you rated the tyres as a better improvement over the springs?

2.7 bar front and rear, i had the rft's at 2.8. Steering is definitely lighter, but not too much. The main improvement is the feel though, with the run flats the steering felt spongey, and when i turned a corner it felt like the wheels were trying pull back to straight on, the PSS's just feel like they want to pull the car round the corner!

I'm pretty sure that the run flats contact the road much harder on the outsides and are basically running on the side walls, hence the poor handling characteristics.

I did but it was from the perspective of my wife, as she could tell the difference and feel the benefit with the tyres being changed whereas she couldn't with the springs.

If I could only do one or the other though I'd probably have to do the springs though.

Why do you run such high pressures in the RFTs?
Mine F31 330dx recommends 2.4 all around for the 19" RFT's.
What am I missing?

According to the Kwik Fit online tyre pressure finder his car should be 2.6 bar (37PSI) all around for 19's. Which is actually the same as my 335d.

Yours is different to mine, 2.6 all round for light load, 2.8 & 3.1 for heavy load. 2.6 felt really bad so i tried 2.8 in an effort to improve things which did a little bit.

I'm pretty sure my F31 330xd says front 2.4, rear 2.6.

I thought i'd give 2.4 bar all round a go, and i'm impressed! Although the steering is slightly heavier, i'm sure the ride comfort and grip has improved!

Also from reading some bits in the net about the Alpina D3 & B3 (which come with PSS's) it appears that the common opinion is that they are best at 2.4 all round, so i think i'll stick with this.

Yours is sDrive and 4dr, so in theory lighter at both ends than mine, yet had recommended pressures that were higher; very odd, you would have expected things to be the opposite way around. Makes sense therefore that yours should drive a bit better with the lower pressures I guess.

The Alpina also runs wider tyres front and rear, fronts are 245/35, rears 265/30, not that that should make much difference.

I think the higher pressures may be to improve fuel efficiency and emmisions, rather than ride and handling.

The 330d sdrive saloon just gets in under the 130g/km so maybe BMW had to increase the tyre pressures to achieve that. But the xdrives and tourings are over it whatever they did so they could use the more suitable pressures for those models.
