Has anyone removed exterior trim texture (to prepare for paint)?

I know it's been done a million times on other platforms, but I'm curious to see if anyone has done it with their X1. The texture is very light on our trim in comparison to some of the textures I've seen.

My question is, would it be necessary to completely sand the texture out, or would a decent layer of high build primer and wet sanding bury it?

If sanding the texture off of the pieces is not necessary, I'm pretty sure the process would be:

1.Clean well with a red scotch brite pad, and dishwashing liquid.
2. Clean with wax and grease remover.
3. Wash very thoroughly and dry.
4. Apply Bullydog Ahesion promoter.
5. Apply high build urethane 2K primer / surfacer.
6. Block sand high build primer by hand, to remove "orange peel". Last grit should be 600.
7. Clean all over again, then paint with desired materials. Recommended to use urethane base coat, clear coat. (2K)

Right?
