HUD "not with sunglasses thanks"
Having a loan car with HUD, I didn't realise that it works during the day, I thought it only worked at night.
Only found out when my sunglass (Prescription) slipped and hey presto HUD in daylight. Glad I never specced it for my car, I would only be using in the winter when its light driving home. Seems like an expensive treat as opposed to a necessity. |

Something to do with polarising effects. I have one pair of prescription sunglasses that 'dimmed' the HUD but my present transitions do not create the same effect.
Wouldn't be without the HUD hardly ever look down at the dials these days. |

HUD won't work with *some* polarising sunglasses. It's all to do with the direction the polarising coating is laid, if it's 90 degrees to the one built into the HUD, you won't see anything. If it's the same as the HUD, you'll see everything. The brightness of the HUD will reduce as you get closer to 90 degrees. You'll find that if you turn your glasses while looking at the HUD, it'll fade in and out.

They are plenty sunglasses that work with HUD, I believe (don't quote me) you can spec the type to work with hud.
Polarised glass are crap with HUD and with LCD screens in general. This also impacts on Jus' and his IPad modification. I think all my stuff is high UV with dark shading but not polarised. My ESS ICE shades and and couple of other issue shades are ok (Revo and Randolphs). Usually MilSpec glass has to be HUD compatible, Ray bans are usually crap btw. Personally I prefer polycarb wrap types. |

My polarised prescription Oakley sunglasses work reasonably well with the HUD as well, but as with the previous poster the brightness needs turning up to full.

Yup polarised Oakleys ok.
OP made me chuckle that you thought it only worked at night time Like a whole other world is out there un polarised.... Could say lights are an expensive option too, I tend to only use them when dark! ....and those annoying wipers, I never need them unless it rains Each to his own though, found HUD a very good option, expensive I would agree, would cut it before other options though perhaps yes.

I'd put money on the fact that I'd appreciate the HUD more than a sunroof - at least that's the conclusion I reach every time I try to get my dream spec down to something affordable!

I've polarised non-prescription Oakley's and need to turn the HUD brightness to max to see it (it's faint but acceptable). I'll be turning my head to the side to see if it improves the situation re previous post in this thread. Can't inagine it'll turn into my normal driving position though.

I'd take hud over a sunroof any day, I rarely look at the clocks now so my gaze stays higher towards the road 95% of the time. Wife hated it at first, after only the second drive she said it was amazing and all cars should have it, that's quite a statement from her!
