MY 328i Transmission SUCKS!!

I know that it starts in 2nd gear and all but it stinks. ive got :

wild unexpected gear changes....

jerky gear changes....

unsmooth gear changes....

I wonder if this problem is the same as the ones in the x3...ive heard a lot about the x3s tranny being crappy and all.

Also, any other 328i and xi owners wanna share their tranny stories, feel free to do so , i wanna see if this is a common problem and hopefully see if someone has had it fixed.

How can you have wild gear changes if you drive in M mode? Try it and your problems will be solved.

I have posted plenty on this topic. The 328 GM 6L45R (a version of 6L50) sucks. It totally ruins the drivingexperiance of the car. It stalls out, jerks, hesitates, shifts in veird shift points, has a rubberband feel in M mode, and is slow.

My standard test drive with a CA in the car didn't reveal this, and at the time I was told that it was the same tranny in 335 and 328 (BMW Steptronic). Boy did I get pissed off when i realized this was not true after having driven my 328 for a couple of hundred miles and researched the topic further. I will trade my car as soon as I can. My first BMW became nothing but a disappointment.

It maybe that you need to reset your adaptive auto box to relearn your preferences...

This might help:

There was a supporting post by the great E90Fleet but I can't find it.

Let us know how it goes.

why don't you take it to the shop and get it check out and reprogrammed. You bought a new car and you need to be satisfied. Why put up with it... this obviously not how the thing is supposed to perform.

Take it to the shop until it is fixed... if they can't fix it, investigate the lemon laws in your area.

Oh yeah, or you can go to the bmw dealer and tell them to flash your ECU with the latest update. They can easily find out if your car is out of date if you tell them your vin number.

Thanks! I have done all of the above. The re-flash didn't help. I will take it in for it's first service soon. After that, BMW has had more then 3 attempts to fix this. If it still persists, I will start the lemon case.

Not sure, but get use to it. We all have the same problem. The BMW tranny is definately rough.

Maybe the computer memorized your driving patterns and you don't know how to drive

Welcome to the club I have made several posts about how crappy the transmission is in the 328i and how its my last auto I will buy from BMW. Nothing you can do to fix it since it uses different pressure settings for different gear changes to prevent stress on the unit, it also seems to have the worst computer system controlling the gear changes.

I don't understand this either, It simply dies in low speeds.

Is the 330 step the same gm tranny as in the 328? Just wondering because I'm pretty sure that the 328 loaners I get have a different feel to them (different in the negative sense).

Mine did it twice, once will turning left going about 20ish MPH the other time 5mph in a parking lot.. It ended up not being the transmission but something with the engine computer.

I think it happens when you release the gas when the tranny is changing gears.
