As I don't have the BMW Nav/IDrive etc I've just ordered, and rec'd, one of these as I'm planning to get a sat nav (anyone got any recomendations - I was thinking of the new TomTom 720 Traffic).

I ended up getting from a website in Holland as the only UK supplier I could find were more expensive and had to order it in:

Yeah it's the route I've taken. The Kuda mount, TomTom Go720T and the Brodit 720T mount with fixed power supply. I have hidden the power wiring easily enough and have sussed out how to bury the Traffic antenna lead, but haven't done this job yet. As far as I can tell this is will make it neater than a BMW Garmin install if you want to use a TMC signal, which is why I went this way.

With the latest v13 traffic antenna I seem to get a pretty good signal most of the time with the cable right up to the windscreen at the base and then lost behind the A pillar.

My 2 criticisms of the Brodit base are:
1. That you can just see the leads coming from the base, so it's not a perfectly clean install once finished, but better than most. It would be better with a right angle Traffic connector (like the older TomToms).

2. It would be better value if it came with a, say, 0.5M long aerial extension lead, with a right angle plug to make a better install.

I would have used this but it's for a 720 and doesn't make provision for the traffic lead-shame.

Don't buy a Route 66.

I won one in a raffle at Christmas, (second prize).

It should have been the booby prize. it's crap!

I've had a Navman 510 for a couple of years.
It's not perfect, and doesn't support some of the extras Route 66 has.

I was suprised at how different the presentation of navigation instructions are between the two. The '510 is far easier to follow than the '66.

I've not tried a Tom Tom though.

Looks good, but I do find those Kuda mounts a bit bulky.

I used to use Brodit stuff and just took my time with the cable routing.
