BMW F10 (2011-2013) Front Lip Spoiler & Rear Diffuser Confusion (M Tech)

Can anyone tell me the major difference in the M-Tech rear diffuser and one designed for the M-Sport (535i, 550i)?

I want to replace my single piped, dual OEM diffuser with a diffuser that excepts quad pipes. I am also on the hunt for a front lip spoiler for my 2011 535i, M-Sport, RWD sedan. Everywhere I look, sites say "front lip spoiler fits M-Tech front bumper only..." or "Diffuser for M-Tech rear bumper..."

All I want is a diffuser and a front lip spoiler that will fit my factory M-sport...it actually doesn't need to be carbon fiber [which is all I see!] Does anyone have any valuable, useable input for me on this? Thanks!! - Chip

Hi Chip!

In the 2014 F10 5 Series Sedan Ordering Guide http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=697460 you will see for the 535i the Lines: ZLL Luxury, ZML Modern, ZMM M Sport. The las one is what people call "M Sport car", and it has a subset of options.

Here the 337 M Sport Package is sitting, it is a big thing affecting suspension, interior, roof, wheels, steering wheel, M Aerodynamics package, footrest, shadowline, exhaust tips etc. Full description is here: http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=403543

You notice, the M Aerodynamics package = Aerodynamic Package M Technic is inside the M Sport Package. But for another Lines it is available separately as the option 715 Aerodynamics kit (see ZMM M Sport list). This standalone option has only M-style front and rear bumpers and side skirts.

Now in top of the 337 Package (P337A) or 715 Option (S715A) some enthusiasts can apply M Performance accessories, here we go: http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...74&hg=51&fg=95 This is what you are asking about, and if ordered in full, it has: СF front lip, black "Performance" grills, new black diffuser, CF rear spoiler, СF mirror caps and stupid stickers for the side skirts.

You see, this Performance stuff is like a total retrofit, and while the mirror caps, grills or rear spoiler can fit any of the F10 cars, the front lip and rear diffuser need either the big 337 Package (P337A) or the standalone 715 Option (S715A) to be present, otherwise they just won't fit.

So don't worry buddy, once you say you have the 337, just feel free to pick any of the Performance elements. All my friends normally compliment the СF Performance front lip with the CF Vorsteiner or 3D Design rear diffuser, but this is another story and money. And finally, for a quad exhaust you can either custom cut out the 535 diffuser, or take the 550 one, or select the aftermarket one.

Good luck!

Thanks valbmw! I see what you are saying but I still have the question on the difference between the OEM and the aftermarket front and rear bumpers and why most products sold for the MSport only fit M Tech front and rear bumpers.

OK, so now we know, the M Tech Option is a piece within the M Sport Package, and each of them provides a car with the M bumpers front and rear.

Most products made and sold for M bumpers just because such cars are more expensive (the S715A M Tech alone costs several thousand dollars), and these owners will rather buy more tuning parts than the owners of non-M Sport or non M-tech cars. The same is about application of a Carbon Fiber as luxury material.

The OEM body parts are normally of higher quality and will fit the car perfectly, while the cheaper replicas from ebay can make fitment a trouble. Buy any used OEM part rather than a brand new replica.

With the aftermarket retrofits such as: front lips, rear diffuser etc. it is critical to get them from a trustful vendor. You can see, I have all my car wrapped in Vorsteiner, also the wheels. This is the very expensive solution, however quality is superb and everything has perfect fitment.

For non-M Sport/M Tech some good retrofits also exist (e.g. Hamann), but I don't know much about it.

Thanks for the incredible reply! I completely understand that M Tech and M Sport is one in the same. M Tech was the old terminology...M Sport the new.

You're welcome!
BTW see a good example of the quad exhaust along with the diffuser from 550i (scroll below for pics): http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=643868
