CD Player - saving spot?

Have the bog standard cd set up in the 2.0i.

If i am playing a tune and half way through, then leave the car turned off for a few hours - when i turn it back on it starts back at the beginning of the track! Not had a car stereo system do this for donkeys years!

Wonder why??

It seems to save the exact spot if i turn back on in a short space of time though [not sure exactly how long though].

Take it i'm not alone??

It's the needle resetting to the start of the track to save wear on the data part of the disc.

Surely you mean the laser not the needle - and its to prevent it burning a dead spot in the middle of the track.

Yep mine does the same, starts in exactly the same spot when you get back in and restart the engine.

I upraded my ICE recently and found my new set up better.
This fits just right in the boot, strap it down and pop the trumpet through the ski hatch!

Mine doesn't. CD always resumes from where it left off no matter how long I've left the car from. Assume the CD player remembers how far through the disc it was, it surely doesn't keep firing the laser at it!!!

Mine is just the bog standard system.
I've only played MP3 CDs in it so far,but the same as the OP it goes back to the start of the track.

[the mp3 CD is a bit of a novelty to me,first car to have one,a glove box full of regulars replaced by a couple of burnt ones...but does anyone else find ripping CDs a pain in the...]

Happens on my US car, too. I find it to be a pain in the arse. However, there's threethirty, who says his doesn't? Also, a friend of mine who is a tech at my dealership said it's a programming issue, but I haven't made an effort to go to the dealer to investigate it further.

Mine does the same. Possible rationalisation. It's set up so that if you stop for a short period it is reasonable to assume that you would want to continue from where you left off but if it is off for a substantial period of time (hours, overnight) who wants to start a piece of music from somewhere in the middle!?

I misread the original post, I thought he meant the beginning of the entire CD. In that case I am not certain what mine does, probably the same as everyone else's.

Good point. However, I do find it irritating for some reason, when it's the same day that it resets! Can't think why, but it just annoys me.

It's a known problem & has been for quite some time.

A Technical Service Bulletin was released for this issue last March- have a look here.

BTW- it IS relevant, whether or not the audio is muted (by pushing the volume knob).

If you're unhappy about it, make a complaint to your dealer, tell them to look at 'SIB 653205' & you'll get a free Progman update to the latest version (v28 as far as I know).

All the best.

Are you sure you haven't accidentally pressed the rewind disc button?

Indeed, I had this problem and found it so annoying that when I put my car in for some routine serving and a few other minor issues, I asked my dealer to do something about it (pointing them in the direction of a known fix in Progman 25+ of course ) .

Got the car back today, I assume with Progman 28 on it. quite a few improvements to IDrive. Speed, some reorganisation of menus, a problem that I forgot to report (that requires Treble to be on max to get a half decent sound from the standard audio system seems much improved - I now prefer treble at about 60%). TMC also is presented more sensibly with problems that do not affect your route displayed with smaller icons, and it looks like the Text list of the TMC incidents, now is presented with the cursor at the closest problems, rather than halfway down the list.

I think I had CIP 20 or 21 previously. Much impressed with Progman28.

Steve

Hi Steve. Hope you're keeping well.

Glad to hear the update has made your life easier.

As for 'acting responsibly'- 'pah'!
