Looking to buy a MT M Sport.. Help please
Hi everyone,
I'm not new to BMW's, have owned a number of 3 series and X5s over the years, and am finally ready to move into a 5 series. I've loved my old e46 ZHP through the years, and it has convinced me that I want an M sport. Can you guys help me and let me know what I should be looking for in a used one or CPO? Do I want the 550i or 535i (and then flash Dinan software onto it)? Any years to avoid? Looks like the new nav came out in 2012, and LCI in 2014. Oh, I'll be looking for a MT. Appreciate the help everyone, thank you! |

I came from a 6 speed E46 ZHP sedan myself. I would suggest driving an M Sport with the sports transmission to determine if you really want that MT. I had my heart set on a manual as well but was having a very hard time finding one with my color and option desires. I was reading a lot about how good the 8 speed was in the F10 and I can honestly say I don't miss having the 3rd pedal now. The 8 speed sports tranny is that good. Just my $0.02.

Guidance as to what you should look for is subjective and very much personal taste. The 550's are heavy on the gas consumption but, together with the 535i's, have great OEM power curves and quite a few people here re-map with Dinan. The Diesel's have phenomenal torque and the 535D will give any 550i and M3 a bit of a shock and a fair run for their money (without necessarily beating them). If you want raw power then I doubt the 528's 4 cylinders will light your fire but man they look fantastic and they're a great daily drive and have a lot of the other features if you go with the Sport model. My personal preference was for something that was quick off the mark so I upgraded from a pre-LCI 535i to an LCI 535D M Sport for better power (309Bhp/230Kw), torque (464 lb.ft/630 Kw), nearly double the mileage per tank, as well as the LCI features (DAB+ Radio, Surround View, Park Assist, High Beam Assist, Harmon Kardon Sound System, and the Eco Pro function). Good luck finding a Manual Transmission regardless of the model you go for as they are virtually non-existent, at least here in Oz. You might also want to ensure the vehicle has had the Vanos Recall attended to. I believe that was the N55 engine but I would need confirmation from others here that I've quoted that engine number correctly. All the best in your search as BMW got this F10 model right on many levels.

BTW I remember your screename from E46fanatics. Good to see you are still supporting the brand. I hope to move to a 640/650 Gran Coupe next myself.

thanks--truly love the cars. Was on fanatics and bimmerfest in the earlier days, and also ZHP mafia... Bought my wife a 2011 X5 SAV earlier this year and she loves it... Then I started getting a bit jealous.

Quick q: Being in New England I'll need snow tires / wheels. The M sport comes with 19s. Looks like the only 17" wheel is style 327. Will those fit all F10s? Not sure if the M sport calipers would fit...

I love my 2011 CPO 550i M-Sport Manual...
I have snow tires and it has been working well for me. Just a stellar vehicle. Coincidentally...contemplating selling mine to help fund my wife's new vehicle purchase later this year.

I have the 2012 550i manual with a M spec kit. BMW tell me 1 of 7 imported into America. So a stick is hard to find. The power of the 550i is awesome. Great car. Any one else on here had the courtesy upgrade. BMW put in over $10000 of parts in. All fuel injection system replaced for free.
I must warn anyone to take the wheel insurance at purchase. Two wheels and tires cost $2560 after I beat the dealer down as I found Atlanta BMW had wheels on sale. The insurance is $1998. |

Wow, truly is rare--what is the courtesy upgrade? Does it apply to a 535i MT?

Just checked BMW Performance site--no short shift kit available. Bummer.
