Hoosier R6 on the stock 19's?

Tirerack's data on the Michelin PSS is lacking a bit when it comes to the BMW specific tire, but the tire seems to be lighter and more narrow than its standard cousin.

I was just about to place an order for some R6's in 265x35zr19 and 295x35zr19 but the additional half inch on each side bothers me with as much body roll as this car has stock (with adaptive suspension in sport+) and the fact that I'm taking it to an half oval road course next weekend.

Does anybody happen to have experience with this specific setup?

Front should be no issue on Rubbing.

Rear you can do 295/30-19 Same OD as 265/35.

You will not rub in the rear on a stock rim.

I think you would be one of the first to do so and report back. I ran BFG-R1 on a stock zcp e92 M3 (camber plates only) Two things to watch for. One: I would accede the MOT of the brake pads, the pad would disintegrate so fast the pedal would start going to the floor (~60% braking power). Two: The tires were too sticky for the OEM springs. Therefore you would have to set the car down gently onto the bump stops. It was a little unnerving but still pretty fast. Let us know! PS I don't know if it would rub but would go with the 295/30/19.

Hoosier R6's 265x35zr19, 295x35zr19. Nowhere near rubbing with slight curb protection around the wheel.

Also hiding pagid rs29's in there. Lap times should be good this weekend.

yep trying to change one thing at a time.

currently its brake pads because it had to be done and tires

alignment has a bit more rear toe in (by hand, no machine or string box to check) and what I believe is a bit of toe out in the front. I basically move these around until the car drives the way I want but I'll get it measured at some point.

otherwise all stock, next plan is most likely the rdsport sway bars and maybe have a set custom bent once i figure out a rate that I'm looking for.

I'll see if I can get a camera on the outside of the car so we can see the roll with this sticky of a tire on a super speedway bank

You aren't driving on the R6s on the street are you? It's very dangerous to do so as they would be so easily damaged by the normal crappy roads that we all drive on every day. They should only be used on the track, and not even driven to/from.

While I'm not entirely recommending this to anyone, I have been driving on R6's for years on the streets. I drive on them in the rain as well and just avoid standing water as that is the only thing the grooves on tires do anyway is displace standing water.

Testing on a half oval road course today said that 38psi front and 40psi rear was the fast ticket. I think this will be slightly lower for lower load tracks though as the right side of my car was absolutely cooked.. cool the tires are 4psi different right to left.

While I agree it is dangerous I know many people who drive on R-Comp's on the street without issue.

I am only speculating here, but if you're driving on tyres that expressly mention they are not safe for street driving and should be driven on a track only and get in a wreck, there's a damn good chance that your insurance won't cover you.

There is a big difference between the R888s and the R6 on the street btw. The R6 is a much more lightweight construction and is far more easy to destroy with road debris than the R888. Plus the R6 will be lethal in a decent rain on the street.

You guys are nuts driving slicks on the road, insurance definitely won't cover you, those are not DOT approved tires.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) established the Uniform Tire Quality Grading Standards (UTQGS) in 49 CFR 575.104

R6's carry a UTQG rating of 40, actual slicks don't carry this rating and usually have no side markings except some paint...

The hoosier r6 is DOT approved, they're steel/nylon belted (although barely) and in my experience have not taken punctures or damage. I personally don't drive 19's over potholes or irregular surfaces if I can avoid it with any tire though. btw, these 4 tires fit in the back seat barely, 3 + 1 in the trunk is better.

This thread was more about the fact that these tires fit on the 19's, and work well on the track.

So the 295/35zr19 R6's that were on the banked oval side wore into the inside plastic shielding around the tire well but didn't touch anything else. The inside tire did not have the same issue so perhaps the camber gain was too much for the stock suspension with 1.4g's.

I would still recommend this fitment to anybody that is looking toward it for the stock 19's.

Thanks for sharing. This looks like a decent option. Only had time for one track day on the F80. I really like the stock PSS rubber for daily but for the track these R6s look like a decent option as I've never ran Hoosiers before.
